My Shrew arrived!!
« on: August 04, 2008, 08:26:00 PM »
Well I got home from work to find that my new Shrew had arrived. It turned out beautiful. It is the 54" Fall Brown Chameleon Classic Hunter.

It is  44#@26".After just a few shots I was shooting better than I ever had.It points so nicely.
I just want to give a big thank you to Ron La Clair and Gregg Coffey for building such a beautiful bow.Sorry I do not have any pics.

If you Tradgangers have never shot a Shrew you don't know what your missing. It was definately worth the wait.

Congratulations David!  Wish you had pics.  It is likely very similar to my spring green chameleon Classic Hunter.  Mine is 46# at 27".  It was worth the wait, wasnt it?  These last 2 weeks took forever.

By the way, what arrows are you planning on shooting?  Ron suggested 55-60 woodies for mine.  And maybe 2016s in aluminum, which I just ordered.  I have yet to make any wood arrows up, although I have a couple dozen tapered ceder shafts.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone,I can't wait for Oct.1.My Fall Brown Chameleon is so sweet. The way Gregg stained the veneers. The bow has like a burgandy, black and brown camo. It's hard not to stop looking at it.I'm gonna call it my " killin stik".

Ronp,
I've tried some Goldtip 35/55 29" long with 175 gr.tip.They fly pretty good.I would like to try Arrow Dynamic trad lite to see how they work.Anyone have any experiance with the AD shafts.

I've got two LH Classics, a 54" 49#@28" and a 56" 51#@28".

I'll be at the GLLI this coming weekend if you want to try them out.   :campfire:      :archer:

And all of this for a bargain price! In the past I've encouraged Ron to hire another bowyer to help Gregg turn out more bows, so we don't have to wait so long. Ah, but since getting to know Gregg a bit through the building process of my own Classic Hunter, I don't really want another bowyer. And so far as the wait, supply and demand ... well, Brother Ron understands "quality over quantity" as too few do these days. Ron and Gregg and buyer trust and patience -- that's the Shrew magic! Makes me almost wish I'd had a shrew tattoed on my leg, rather than a bear paw. That's as close as I can come spiritually to "art vs. nature." Bottom line, geeze: so pleasing to look at, so gratifying to touch (just like my lovely always-young wife!)   :notworthy:  Dave

Hey Art,
I will show you mine.  I got your e-mail and I will call you about the arrows.  David, what was your initial brace height?  Mine was about 7 3/8 and the string has stretched just a bit like Ron said.  I need to shoot some more to break in the string.  I ordered a spare as well.

The AD Trads and Tradlites both fly very well out of my 52" Classic Hunter.....mine is 51@28 and I put 250 grains up front and have them cut to 29"...

My Shrew is awesome! To be able to shoot a bow this small almost as well as my 66" longbows is amazing!!

Ronp,

My Classic Hunter was about 7 3/8 also. Ron told me they would perform best between 7" to 7 1/2".
Talk to you later.
