Another fletch tape advantage
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:01:00 PM »
I had some busted up cedars with perfectly good flethes on them, and I have been experimenting with 2 fletches and found when using fletch tape, you can actually remove and re-use your feathers on another shaft    ;)    with a tiny bit of patience and a small razor-knife, you can insert the blade between the fletch and shaft about a half inch from the end and peel up the end, then pull the whole feather off. Put it in a clamp and use knife to get between tape and quill, get one end up then slowly peel off. Apply new tape and "poof" good fletch.

Heres a pic of used feathers on a new shaft

If this is old news to you I apologise. I'm kinda slow   :knothead:

Trapper just take the wifes hair drier put it on high and heat up the fletch good and warm then use your razor knife and just start the back of the fletch then grab with fingers pull with steady presure at a 45 degree away and back twards the arrow knock, the fletch will peal right off and will be ready for use, no need to replace the tape.

I just slap another layer of tape over the old one and mount on my fire and forget arrows. Works really good.
