I have started seedlings by breaking open the fruit and drying the seeds then planting them in a coffee can. They seem to be fairly easy to start.

Kip, I've left the fruit in a bucket with a little water over the winter.  Up north it freezes and the mixture is much in the spring.  Planted that and thin out the shoots once they come up...may not work so well in in warm South  :)   Doc

Kip, T-bell and I would be interested in doing a little harvesting if you get permission on those trees. Email T-Bell, he has grown some from seed.

You can count me in on helping to harvest as well.  I could use a couple staves.

Keep some kerosene or WD-40 on hand to hose down the bar every so often. It keeps the resins dissolved.

Do what Tippit says with the apples. Cows will eat the apples and "plant" them for you too. Plant them where they'll have to fight straight upward for sunlight. Keep the trunks pruned up as they grow. My buddy has a fencerow of young trees. I pruned up the first 200 feet or so, and those trees look great, compared to the tangled mess in the rest of the row. Wear heavy clothing and heavy leather gloves when you work on them and you'll cut down on the bleeding a bit.

I plant my osage by putting some used horse stall shavings in a 55gal plastic drum (cut in 1/2), adding the whole "orange" and letting it sit where it can get rain, or be able to water it every so often.  When spring comes you have a bunch of sprouts, to re plant.  Have also used Doc Tippits way, both work.
