draw weight
« on: August 26, 2008, 04:09:00 PM »
I'm in the process of receiving a Pearson Colt from a trad gang member and iit will eventually be my sons, but till I get my new bow from Flatwoods Custom Bows i'll shoot this bow. The bow has a forty pound draw weight is that suffecient to hunt with? I'm used to shooting compound bows and any info. would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going from a compound to a trad bow you should drop some poundage, remember there is no let off with a trad bow. Forty pounds is a good starting weight. Frank

Be sure to check your game laws.  Here in Texas 40# is the minimum for hunting deer.  Be sure your laws don't have a higher minimum.  While you are looking check to see if there is a standard for broadhead width.

I agree with what everyone has already said.

Also...If you want to get the most out of your equipment...tune it to the best of your ability. It is probably the single most beneficial thing you can do to improve your arrow's penetrating capability.
