Broadhead Test I'd like to see
« on: August 26, 2008, 05:25:00 PM »
With all the broadhead testing done recently, there is one test I would love to see somebody (with a lots more smarts than me) do.  I read in Dr. A. testing that a honed bh penetrated better that a filed bh.  If I remember correctly he was using buffalo hides as a test medium.  He also noted that the buffalo hides were "fiberous" and the "fibers" in the hides "hung-up"on the rougher edges of the filed sharpened bhs and kept them  from penetrating as much as the honed bhs did.  I my experience, deer hides don't have the "fibers" that Dr. A. noted in the buffalo hides.  Lots of older bowhunters recommended filed sharpened bhs over honed becaused they stated if the bhs impact bone, the honed edge (being thinner?) would "roll-over" and not retain its edge as well as a filed edge.  I have noticed that when shooting bhs into a foam bh target, that honed bhs "seem" to loose their edge quicker than a filed bh.  Could some TradGanger devise a test and see which bh would keep its edge better (and cut better)after cutting through a deer hide and ribs?  I KNOW that some of ya'll out there are pretty sharp (pun intended) guys and gals.      :knothead:   What ya'll think?

SuperK, it's going to take someone a lot more knowlegable than me to test broadheads beyond the normal testing stuff.
I do think if a person sticks with a proven design they will have good results. Frank
