Great Northern Bow Quiver Question!
« on: August 31, 2008, 01:15:00 PM »
I changed to 2.75 inch long Grizzly broadheads, and due to that longer length, I cannot get the full length if the broadhead into the foam insert?----The edge is exposed and HAS nipped me when I grab the quiver to take it off the bow?---Does anyone have a fix, or maybe Great Northern can help when they open back up on tuesday?---
Thanks Bill

Not very pretty, but can wrap a few thicknesses of duct tape around the lower edge of the hood to give another half-inch or so of coverage.

Orion,----Thanks for the suggestion!---I thought about the duct tape, as well as other possible skirt options to extend the quiver coverage, but that seems a little Hoaky???----I am hopeing Great Northern might have a solution??----Maybe something to extend the foam INSERT further out?
I was just checking to see if any others might have experienced this same problem, and found an acceptable solution?
  Thanks,  Bill

Yeah, a larger foam insert would do it.  Don't think GN has anything like that at present.  May have to make it yourself.  Could even slip a thin strip of leather around the inside of the  hood to extend the skirt.  Good luck.

Beatle, had the EXACT same experience, it was a minor cut the first time, but the second time, it was kind of embarrassing with trying to make a stalk and leaving a blood trail at the same time. I made an extension which I meant to send a photo of to GN to see if they wanted to make something similar as an option, but never got around to it. I made mine out of a strip of Kydex which is a leather grained heat formable sheet plastic, that is very tough and they make holsters and knife sheaths out of it and such. You need a strip about an inch wide and roughly 11" long. Since its heat formable you can use a heat gun or even a candle to warm it enough to make the curve and corners. I put the seam at the corner where the support bar sticks through and attached it, with six tiny wire ties, just punch holes about 3/8" down from the top edge of the kydex and matching holes 3/8" up from the bottom edge of the hood and run the wire ties out the hole in the hood over the top edge of the kydex and down through that hole and into the female end of the wire tie. You could do the same thing with a strip of leather, but the kydex is thin, stiff and flexible and works out perfectly, this one I made has been on there about ten years and has been to the arctic circle, Africa and Australia many times with no problems.

WOW!-----Thanks Rick!
I will give it a try.----Might you have a picture you could share with me?
I am VERY Suprised that G.N has not offered a solution, especially since there are many longer broadheads out there?----Thanks again!

I'm surprised they never did either, I guess no one complained. I don't have a photo handy, but I'll see if I can come up with one when I get back home. Its pretty simple really, its just a belt of kydex wrapped around the outside of the hood and overlapping 3/8" at the bottom edge. I thought of gluing it on also, but this way if I ever decided to take it off, its just nipping the six zip ties and will only leave six very small holes.

If you took your existing quiver hood apart, you could use it as a pattern for making a longer hood. That's what I'd do if the exposed length of broadhead bothered me. I've taken them apart before and it's not that much to it.

Mine are doing the same thing, first year with grizzlies. Didn't stress it but will when I am doing a stalk and leaving a bloodtrail of my own!! Nice Rick - that is good.

I think you may just take a piece of foam and epoxy it in place? you can get good foam piece at wally world.

Here it is.........an easy fix front skirt is a bit longer than the back one

I used Barge Cement; but other weatherproof glues will work too.
