You didn't upset me at all my friend.I don't think most Tradgangers would have any problem with your observation either.I just wanted you to know you could be poking a hornets nest.

There have already been too many casualties in that war.Lots of folks have either got fighting mad or been banned while either bashing or defending the DAS bow.None of the reasons are worth reiterating.

I would hope we are beyond that sort of thing and can let a bow stand on it's merits alone.

Glenn, I respectfully Disagree. I have seen light/minumal weight arrows being shot and they are louder... Out of Compounds and Traditional bows... If the bow that is shooting these arrows has extra energy that is not being absorbed the shot WILL sound louder.  Let me know if there is something I am missing. I am
ALWAYS up to learning something new...

Hum I have a friend that states that the DAS is the Quietest bow he has shot and this fellow has shot a few I think the set up you heard is wrong or at least 5 or 6 gr a lb I heard some ilf bows last winter that were noisy but they were shooting 5 gr a lb so if your set up is wrong it it will  be loud also endless strings are a little more noisy you can quiet an bow with proper tuneing and arrow weight

I knew you were not up set and I thank you for what you said. I am sure DAS makes a fine bow. This bow just stood out as verry loud. If I had it to do over I would keep it to myself. Some times it is best to make yourself a mental note and leave it there.

Big Ron I do build bows for a living. And you are right extra energy not being absorbed by the arrow does have noise but I have found that a lot of bows are not tillered correctly to start with and I have readjusted tiller on many name brand bows over the years and have found that this alone does quiten a bow down a lot and makes them shoot a lot smoother and quiter.
You don't have to accept a noisy bow just because you are shooting light weight arrows. Tune your bow up, check brace height, try the thread seal tape on TD bolts, asdjust tiller, it's amazing the differance you can make to the way a bow shoots and sounds by correctly tuning it...Glenn...

We were pig hunting in 100+ degree weather and I was a little jealous of my buddy who's DAS had the foam/carbon limbs because they aren't affected by the heat like normal, pretty glass limbs. The bow has been left strung since he got it and takes some serious abuse. Try leaving a glass bow in your truck all day when it's over a 100 degrees out and see what happens.
Yes I have been around a lot low brased recurves. I have owned and shot more than a I care to remember. My first bow was a recurve in 1971. I have bowhunted for a long time and never heard a bow that loud. I never leave any bow in hot truck. I try to take care of my bows.

I think "ugly" can make a bow real loud, too.

Tom L,

I was at the shoot as well and thought the exact same thing as you. I stood behind him while he shot to qualify for the buckeye shootoff. It was a Daala (sp?) from 3 Rivers. Loudest recurve I have ever been near.

The guy (I dont remember his name) placed in his class, if I remember correctly. I would assume someone who shoots well enough to place knows how to tune a bow, as well.

That may be as quiet as it gets with the speed he wants. It was a good shoot OSTA always does a great job.

I shot my DAS bow at the Muzzy stump shoot. I was shooting with Joel Riotto. Anyone in the PBS will know who he is. He's been a bowhunter for many years and has bowhunted all over the world. As we were shooting he said my DAS was the quietest recurve he had ever "heard". It's all about tuning, string silencers and as Shawn stated, putting in the time to get it right. I took Joel's comment as a compliment. My wife's DAS is just as quiet but having just put new limbs on it I did not put limbsavers on it. The string silencing system I use is based on the bow hush system but I use two smaller sets of the hush puppies rather than one larger set.

....By the way, I have helped a number of guys set up DAS/Dalaa bows. They are not magic until you get all the sweet spots figured out.In fact, they can be downright crazymaking if you are not handy and screw up the bows specs.  Once you do find the sweet spots you will have a very quiet bow with a buttery draw and a cream puff release....with power and speed. Again, poorly tuned, qualilty of the limbs and knowledge of the shooter all come into play. Most of the time when the bows have been loud it has been fixed with tiller adjustment...zero tiller seeming to be the best bet for most shooters.
