I've been playing around with tuning carbons for my longbow(cut close to center), and discovered something. I'm using Beman 500's(45-60 spine) and
I thought I had the shafts cut correctly at 29.75" with 100gr. inserts and 125 field points. They fly pretty good and I'm accurate with them, but when I tried a Stinger 125 broadhead, I found I was off quite a bit. Mostly low and right.(right-handed btw). Well I dug around and found a 160gr. Ace standard with a 50gr. adapter glued in already, so I tried that...Well I was pleasantly surprised that this bow of mine only drawing 47-48lbs. at my draw actually shoots very well with this arrow combination. Total head weight is 210 gr. plus the 100gr insert, making a total arrow weight of 535gr. I like it but the FOC seems to be waaaay up there.
I know that carbons will cover a wider range of shaft length/head weight combinations. But this seems to be rediculus. Any thoughts? or should I just shut up and shoot???
