leather rest

Is there any downside to using a one piece leather rest.  I am getting tired of replacing hair rest all the time.  I would like to here the opinions of those that do or have used the one piece leather strike plate and rest or other leather rest.

I have leather on at least half my bows.  Works good.  Quiet and tough.  Been  using it for about 40 years.  No downside that I can think of.
