Carbon Express Heritage 250 or 350??
« on: April 26, 2006, 12:50:00 AM »
I need some help...

I bought a Horne T/D Mountain Bow, 62" AMO 56# @ 28". I draw right at 30", so it should be around 62# at my draw. FF string. Cut to center.

I want to shoot a 200 gr. tip/bh and a Carbon Express Heritage shaft at around 31" long.

Anyone with similar setup shoot these shafts? If so, which one do you prefer 250 or 350? I have read where some shoot 250 with 200 gr. tips, but I'm worried that it might be weak with this bow.

The 350's will be heavier, which I would like even better, but I would'nt want to sacrifice great arrow flight for the heavier shaft.

Any help and opinions will be appriecated.

I would go with the 350's. I shoot the 250's out of my 58# recurve. They are cut to 29" and fly great with a 150gr head. I think they would be too weak at you weight and length. The 350's should be about perfect.

I'd lean toward the 350's.  I'm shooting 250's with 225gr up front. 53#@28" recurve.

I am shooting 250's with 190 BH at 29"  and they fly like a laser.  If I drop very much tip weigh they start to show signs of being too stiff. So I am right on the lower edge I think.

Long Bow being drawn to 52 pounds.

I've got a wicked quest shooting 55# @ 29". I draw a tad over 29 cut the 250s down to 30" and shoot 200 gr and they are a tad weak. I would do the 350s. You can always weaken a shaft......not near as easy to stiffen one. Just my .02

I'm shooting 250's cut to 30 1/8" with 250 grain tip out of 53#@30" Centaur (cut to center).  I'd go with the 350's for your set up.

Hi people, Did a search and this thread was the closest to what i wanted to know but would like to get some comformation. I shoot a Predator classic 59#@28" and draw 29" so pulling around 62#@29" and would like a 30" shaft minimum i will be using 100 grain inserts with 125 grain points total of 225 grain up front. Will the CXH 350s do the job or should i go with the 250s? Any advice would be great.

Cheers

Hamish-  350's.

Raw Hide-  I'll send you back a couple 250's at 31" if you want to try them.  You're probably going to need the 350's though with a 30" draw.

Man, I don't understand this stuff. I have some 250s and shooting my 58# center cut recurve, they shoot well full length with 250 grains up front. That's too long for me with a 27 inch draw so I need weaker shafts. It seems impossible that you could shoot these out of a 53 lb bow with only 225 up front...

I'm with you Beach.  It just seems to be a trial and error thing, even from brand to brand and bow to bow.  Some folks are shooting combos I couldn't possibly get to fly because they'd be way too stiff for me.

If you have an archery shop near you, thats the way to go.(and not waste your money). I found out the hard way(money spent). I ended up at the archery shop bare shafting full length arrows, cutting off a 1/4" at a time with someone else watching my arrow flight(experience really helps here). I thought I could determine good flight, but the carbons just recover to fast for me to really tell. I didnt realize how good my flight was until I got home and my arrows penetrated 3" inches deeper into my target. My biggest mistake from the start was thinking I had to shoot a certain length arrow. Amazing the things you learn from an empty wallet!LOL!(with tears). Best of luck!!!-Greg

Hey Mike, definitely go with the 350's. I'm  shooting the 250's out of all my bows in the 50-53# range with 200 gr Phantom broadheads. i get great arrow flight with this setup. I think you'll find the 250's too week out of you bow even with lighter broadheads. By the way, how ya been?? Michael

I'm shooting the 250's cut at 30.25" with insert and 200gr points out of my 70#@29" Abbott longbows and 65#@29" Bob Lee recurve. I like them alot.
