Kids flinging arrow!
« on: September 12, 2008, 12:50:00 PM »
I've got an oppurtunity to lets some kids shoot.  I'm a memeber of a local Ducks Unlimited chapter.  We are having our annual Greenwing Event tommorrow.  I'm putting on an Archery Demo for the kids.  I got to thinking whats better that watching someone shoot.  Shooting yourself-right.  So, I went to local archery shop to see if he had a light wieght bow to loan me for the kids.  He gave me a recurve, targets, arrows, arm quards, and tabs.(all at the last minute)  My hat off to him.  :clapper:   (The Bowsmithe, Inc. out of Dunn, NC)

I plan on getting some ballons to set up on the target to let the kids shoot at.  Sense of accomplishment when the kids actually bust a balloon.

I wonder who is going to have more fun-- Me or the Kids!!!  :biglaugh:

We should have between 60-70 kids.  I'm curious as to how many kids that this will be the first time ever shooting archery.

I do the same with my local Pheasants Forever chapter, we hold a youth day.  The kids get an outdoor education in the following:
Trapping
Habitat- including building bird houses
Trap shooting
Air Rifles
Kayaking & Canoeing
Archery

we usually get 50-60 local kids, and with the help the Michigan Traditional Bowhunters we get a lot of kids interested in archery and yes most have never picked up a bow.

The kids two favorite events by far are archery & kayaking...they love to pop balloons with arrows (or try).  Our event is this saturday so check the Michigan Traditonal Bowhunters forum on Monday and I'll have some pics!

Post some pics and enjoy...nothing like planting the seed in tomorrow's hunters!

You might want to have a light adult bow ready too, you'd be surprise the curosity of the adults too!
