Traveling with one piece bow

How do you travel with a one piece recurve ? I have a soft strung case but I'm wondering about the one piece case Kustom King and 3 rivers sells for an unstrung recurve . It says it will carry 2 bows . Anyone have experience with these cases ?

Jack...of course a soft case won't do for air travel, but for trips by car or truck a soft case can sure take some of the wear and tear off of your bow.

Though I tend to keep my bows in the cab of my truck, there are times when I will put them in the bed of the truck and a nice case gives a lot of peace of mind.

I'm sure that if Kustom King carries the case you are looking at, it will be a quality item. Tim and Gabby are just that way!

I have several of the hard-side cases that 3-Rivers sells and they all work well. The unstrung recurve case was big enough for me to pack a bow and a shotgun in for air travel.

I would put it back in the box that the bowyer sent it to me in and send it to the guy who responded to the add I put in the trad bow classifieds on this web site and take the new 3 piece takedown I purchased for this trip so I wouldn't have to deal with this problem.

Seriously, I have an archer box that takes 2 three piece longbows (or recurves) and 24 arrow that zips into the bottom of a duffle bag.  I think and extra bag is $75 to the airlines.  Not only that, on a couple of horseback hunts I was able to take that extra bow with no hassles from the outfitter.

a friend of mine made is own hard case out of a large diametered pvc pipe,
and sealed both ends,
he used it twice with no problems.

I have the tube case sold by 3 rivers and kustom king. It is big enough for a one piece with a bow quiver and arrows or 2 bows without the quivers. They work great for air travel and in the truck.

I have traveled many times internationally and the only way I can safely carry my one piece is in a heavy duty cut down cardboard box that I sized to accomondate.  It looks horrible and is cumbersome to carry but the airlines have not lost the box so far.  Luggage yes.  It is large enough to pack some cloths inside as well as arrows.  It is checked as one of my two piecies of luggage.  Some airlines do charge you an oversized fee and some don't.  You will get a lot of stares and I have had strangers approach me and ask what is in the box.  Not very pretty but it works.

Bass pro carries a great hard case designed for carrying fishing rods.Cool part is that it extends from 60" to like 72". If memory serves,it was like 39-40 bucks.

Just went and looked at their site,it's the Plano Airliner rod case.It extends from 47" to 7'.Check it out.

You might want to check out a hard sided case used to carry gold clubs.  I addition to geed protection the Golf clubs are not quite so obvious as to the content, (many hard sided bow cases look like rifle cases)  I think Pelican makes a Golf case but perhaps you should check out a Golf pro shop

I like the idea of the golf clubs case and will check that out. Also Aaron is the rod case big enough to carry a recurve in ? Keep the replys coming guys as the ideas keep getting better.

AP2 has the idea - Plano Fishing Rod Case.  Solid, adjustable and big enought for a 1pc. recurve or several longbows.  Also you could LOCK it if you wanted to.  I have used them and been very pleased.

Oh - They are inexpensive and light weight.

I have one of the extendable plano rod cases that I've used for a longbow that has significant d/r. I've taken it on airlines without a problem or a premium charge. The postal service did a number on it breaking a couple of rivets out of the plastic tubes, but now that it's epoxied back together it's even stronger. I've also made a case for my t/d longbow out of very heavy pvc that is virtually industructable.
