good luck I will be counting the days till the 18 of Oct...

Had one of my 3D targets broken up by a buck making a scrape, he for some reason did not like the bedded 3D buck and pushed him about 30 ft, nocked off one horn and pushed the center out of the target. Then made a scrape and made sure his big fat feet were all over the scrape, also found a fresh rub line. This is very early for central NY, is this a sign of a early rut ????

No scrapes by me as of last week when I went out for squirrels and stumping. A lot of sign otherwise.
I cant wait...I have already seen a number of decent bucks I wouldnt mind designating as my first trad deer.
Good luck guys.

I fly into Syracuse on Sunday and drive up to Fort Drum to see my son. I shipped out my gear last week. We'll get a couple of days in the woods chasing deer before time runs out and he heads to Iraq. It will be an emotional rollercoaster for sure.

I would appreciate any tips as it will be my first go at NY Whitetails.

Good Luck to all of you this season.

It great to be retired and just take the time to have fun with the deer season. I made a new ground blind yesterday that is next to a big field of corn and may still be standing on opening day. Lots of tracks in the corn edges. The other side of the blind is a small stream and heavy woods made up of pine and maple. I used burlap camo on tree sides and the other side is open but has a rock wall that when sitting  you can only see my head theu the trees.
The shot I will get is down hill of about a max of 20 yards on the rock wall side the corn side is flat and level and I am less that 15 yards from the corn.  Now I may not even see a deer in this setup, but it sure seems to be a great morning stand as the sun comes up it will be first to get the sun light, I may have to have a bottle of tanning oil, a good book, the fm radio
and must make sure I do carry in the recurve and arrows...

good luck to all and have a safe season

There has to be something wrong with me, at 66 years old this waiting for again opening day of bow season is just like a kid waiting for xmas...

How about you ????

I got all the equipt packed, the bows tuned and am shooting a hour a day to keep the eye in tune with the bow. Got new BH's this year and shoot them in on tuesday. Boy did they fly true and went right thru the BH target at 20 yards.

Good Luck, Guys! In the Northern Zone... Can't wait for Oct. 18 to get here. Bow and Broadheads are tuned. Putting a coat of wax and buffing my bow tomorrow for the season (diminish any wax smell before opening day). Then some last minute scouting.
Someday you and I will take the Great Hart by our own skill alone, and with an arrow. And then the Little Gods of the Woods will chuckle and rub their hands and say, "Look, Brothers. An Archer! The Old Times are not altogether gone!"
