Well, using a long bow and no blind or tree stand definitely has its disadvantages. However, I love a good challenge. So far I have seen deer nearly every time out, and very close as well ... too close. I have been using a simple 3 legged seat and hunker down using wind and feeding/bedding sites to try to intercept the deer. The woods are so thick,it is difficult to see the deer or shoot over 15 yards. Sat. morning I had an adult doe at 3 feet!!! She walked in and feeding, I could not move and only had a head shot, then I had only bad angles and lots of brush in the way. The wind was in my face and unbelievably, she never smelled me!! When I had a chance to draw with out bedding detected her vitals were covered up. 15 minutes of highly interesting "game playing" until she walked off. I did not shoot.
Man, too close or too far, or too covered up! It is extremely frustratingly fun!! If I had my wheelie bow, I could have tagged out many times over, but after days like these confirm how much the Trad challenge is for me.
