Depends how far you wanna drive.  Your not to far from me, and if your looking to hunt some public land I can point our some high population areas.  Lots of hogs in the lowcountry. Plus if you opt for the sportsman license, you can back a whitetail as well. Depending when your planning on hunting, I might even let you talk me into going too  :)

Here is the link to the DNR forum, you can find more info there on hot spots on public lands.

Take your bow for sure. SC has good deer and hog populations. Ray Hammond would be an excellent contact. His hunting operation appears top notch. Class guy and a respected TradGanger to boot.

Yes, check the DNR website for locations and dates. Try to talk Tim into going. From my limited experience hogs move around quite a bit. They will be in one area for a while and then move on to another unless they have a good reason (food) to stay. I want to try Ray Hammonds place one of these days if the funds come avaliable. But 2 daughters one in collage and another in high school keep me pretty well broke these days.
 Good luck with the pigs

The problem with public land is the same everywhere: its hit or miss. You have no control over who was there yesterday, smoking cigarettes, laughing with his buddy, tromping all over the place and screwing it up for days on end in the same spot you are.

By the time you figure it out its time to go home. That may be OK with you, you might want to just go stretch your legs, and have a good time.

If on the other hand, you want to hunt with a real opportunity to take something when you go, but you don't want someone else to lead you up to the animals and say "start throwing wood in the air" - if your time is limited and you want a fair shake at getting close to something, consider our place, Hog Heaven. Its near Allendale, SC and its fair chase, along the Savannah River.

You can see my description in the Sponsor's Classifieds. Sorry about the crass commercialism.

Thanks for the into guys.  I will likely be going down to SC around Jan-Feb -- after season closes in VA.  Still working on a group of three bucks that a logger cutting on property says are big -- with one being a giant.  Have found a great concentration of big rubs and early scrapes, but it is a hard place to hunt because of wind -- always seems to be changing direction.

Tim I PM'd ya.
