My first Traditional....
« on: October 07, 2008, 09:12:00 PM »
... SHOT and miss with trad gear! What a RUSH!!!!!! Here is a quick break down! I set up in a spot I have never sat before, new tree. I look and see a few deer coming towards my stand an hour before close, the big Doe comes by, I stop her perfectly broadside, go thru my stuff in my head and try to remember to pick a spot, nope, shot just over her back! She has no idea what just happened, still standing there broadside, I reach into my Arrowmaster and get another arrow, damn, it has a judo on the end. I manage to get another arrow out, nocked and start to draw on her again, she moves, no shot. The other little Doe under my tree, I shoot just under her! I was shaking SO BAD I thought I was going to have a heart attack! I have never been this fired up while hunting before! I just hope to learn and stay focused and pick that spot, either way, sure was the best hunt of my career! Sure am glad i got that out of the way.....     :knothead:

Yah I guess you're right! In the game of golf you're only allowed one mulligan.

Years ago the very first deer I shot at with a recurve bow... I missed by 4 feet!!  Missed the deer high and left (arrow actually hit a tree dead center). I kind of laughed to myself saying yep, calm down and pick a spot...

That happened 16 years ago. I still giggle a bit thinking about how I "fell apart" during the situation.  I still get excited but can stay calm during the shot; I don't get shaky until afterwards... You gotta love traditional bowhunting!

I had almost a 6th sense a few years back when I shot trad the whole bowseason. Everywhere I hunted I had deer all over me. I missed 14 deer!!! LOL  Never cut a hair on any of em. That's when I knew it was time to give it up. lol

The only thing better than the first miss, is the first hit.  Congrats on getting close man.
