arm guard?
« on: October 09, 2008, 10:37:00 PM »
We got some cold weather today and it was snowing here in Anch,Ak. so I thought I'd through on a heavy jacket(north slope down jacket) and see if I could shoot with it. I actually shot pretty well. I shoot with a little bent bow arm and if I exaggerated it a little I just got a little arm string rub on the jacket. I'm thinking an armguard might be a good idea to prevent the string hanging up a jacket. I'm hunting in Minn and Wisconsin from Oct 17 to Nov 17 so I will probaly wearing a heavy jacket at least in the mornings.

If you don't care for wearing an armgaurd try one of those scrunchies women put in their hair.

I cut the end out of a dark sock and pull it on over my "leafy jacket". It keeps everything snugged up and out of the way.

I wear an arm guard primarily to keep my sleeve out of the way. I very rarely hit my arm with the string. I also use an elastic "garter" on my upper arm to keep the sleeve out of the way.

That is exactly one of the reasons I like armguards, for keeping clothing out of the way.  I feel naked without one even though I never hit my arm.

The other suggestions will work great too, I would do something to keep that jacket out of the way, or it may rear it's ugly head at the worst time.  :scared:

Dye an Ace roll elastic bandage with Rit Dye to the color(s) that match your camo and then just wrap it around your arm and tuck the tag end under the wraps. It is cheap, easy, available at every drug store and works on any size clothing. I like the stretchy tubes too, like the knee braces that Shawn recommends, but they do not accommodate the same variations of clothing thicknesses and can be a hassle to get off and on. Fred Eichler keeps lots of rubber bands stretched around the hood of his bow quiver to use for keeping clothing out of the way. I prefer the elastic hair bands myself even though they do not tend to stay on a quiver hood as well, but either type of band is a handy solution. The advantage of the Ace bandage and other continuous arm guard devices is that there are not any areas of sleeve material poking out to catch on the string. My favorite is still just a leather arm guard, but there are times when the Ace bandage is a better solution.

Check out Mike at Mikes Archery Leather. Guarantee he can make you one that will be very functional and worth every penny. The one he made for me has stood up very well during the rainy seasons here in Oregon.
