i'm torn between buying high quality woolens or possibly getting the sitka celsius. i want something warm for stand hunting and before shelling out$700. plus for clothing, i would like to get a few opinions. thanks for any comments.

I love the Sitka gear, especially that Celcius vest.  That's the one piece from Sitka I'm hoping to get this year.

That said, I don't think the Sitka gear was designed for the grueling sits in fridged weather on the stand.  The system is more designed for maintaining your core while on the move.  You could use it for stand sitting, I just don't know how effective it would be when the temps really drop down and you're not moving.

My recommendation, even though I don't own one - yet - would be for a Heater Bodysuit.  It looks like a big camo insulated sleeping bag that's windproof, waterproof, with separate feet.  It's warm enough that you can wear the lighter cloths on the way out the stand and not build up a horrible sweat, and still be warm and toasty after you arrive.

I know a bunch of guys that swear by them, so that'd be my choice.

HEY JP. I went the route of high end wool,GreyWolf to be exact. Been using it for years now and totally love it.But to honest, dollar wise, wihill nailed it,the Heater Bodysuit would work great, especially if you long hikes to your stand.Good luck and shoot straight.  Mo.

I bought Cabela's wooltimate with windshear this year. I'll let you know how it works out. I like it so far, but certainly haven't tested it in real cold. It is much more affordable than the high dollar wool stuff. Hopefully it will work well.

Heater Body suit.  I can't believe more guys don't have one.

I've been wearing Sleeping Indian wool for about 10 years now.  You're in Manitoba.  I doubt Sitka Gear is going to handle that type of weather.

I bought the Columbia wool on closeout.  Just to get me by one season.  Been using it ever since have had no problems down to -20.  I do have a good windproof shirt I wear under it. (wind does go through it) As long as you have something under it to stop the wind out it works GREAT for the money.
