from what I understand camo breaks up the human form/outline. That's why plaids work well. I do believe deer see color and light differently than we do.

A deers' perifial (sp) vision is outstanding, I have heard, they can see 320 degrees ,on average people  see 180 degrees. I  know from teaching smith driving system that, color, movement and light trigger perifial vision, as opposed to cone vision.

cone vision is about 30 degrees in a human. I'd bet that the percentage of loss is the same for deer. I believe that's the reason decoys work so well.

If you like wearing deninm ,I would suggest buying jeans that have a camo pattern. I have seen wrangler jeans that are camo'd or you could use fabric paint and put lines and blotches on your blue jeans

Wearing jeans up here during hunting season especially second season is a good way to die of hypothermia especially because it rains really cold rain a lot here. I can't remember a second season hunt where it didn't rain or snow on me for at least part of the day. Other than the whole dying from exposure thing you would be fine as far as deer and elk are concerned so long as you keep still and don't let them smell you.

The camo is good enough and they're not very noisy once you break them in. They are, however, made out of cotton which sucks the heat out of you when it's wet.

Wet,Wet,Wet,Wet!!!!!I'm SO tired about hearing "cotton kills"!!!!! I've been huntin' in cotton jeans for over 30 YEARS and I aint dead yet!!!!! For 6 years in the Marine Corp. I wore "rip- stop" cotton on my butt from '78 - '84,and I was wet and cold more than I was warm and dry!!!!!

If we were to do a poll here I'm sure that at least 90% of the folks here hunt within an hours walk of a house, camp or vehicle. IF YOU GET COLD AND WET TO THE POINT WHERE YOU FEEL YOUR LIFE IS IN DANGER.....GO HOME!!!!! (Basic survival training)

Now,That said.....

When I plan on hunting in the rain,or in a wet snow,I usualy wear wool pants because I absolutely HATE to wear rain gear. HOWEVER!!!!! you cannot come home from hunting and throw your wool pants in the dryer or your 10 year old will have a new pair of hunting pants LOL!!!!!

Also.....A thread was recently posted and the majority of folks stated that they do NOT hunt in the rain.....So why shouldn't they wear cotton if they so choose?????

Many folks here work outside in the elements.(myself included) MANY mornings I come home wet and cold,HOWEVER I would not even DREAM of wearing my wool hunting pants to work!!!!! They would be totaly DESTROYED in one night!!!!!

Oh Well.....I gotta get ready to go to work. It's gonna be another long, cold,WET night in the train yard.....I'm headin' out the door wearin' my blue jeans!!!!! I'll talk to you folks in the morning My Friends!!!!! G-night!!!!!    :wavey:
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

I used to wear jeans alot, but like military camo pants for comfort and price. I do like to  cover bare skin especially if facing sun.

I also wear them at times I think a little faded might be better, about the only reason I dont wear them more is due to needing more pocket space than jeans provide. A bunch of years ago, Chuck Adams, yes.. Chuck, before all the slam buisness and such, wrote a article on tye dyeing jeans to break up their outline, but thats back when he was wearing plaid and jeans, and was killin as much as he does now.. .. now he has all those mega sponsors ..

LOL Woodchucker. I grew up doing all that farm work in jeans. Can't believe I ain't dead now! Must of been the cow and hog poo on 'em that kept me insulated.  :)

I usually don't wear them hunting because they are a little noisy and I like to still hunt.
But.., if I can get away from work early I'll not hesitate to wear them.
I do think I have a little more trouble getting busted when they are faded. But I would say the same thing about faded camo.

Easy there woodchucker..it will be okay   :bigsmyl:

When it's rainy, cold, wet, snowy, windy, etc., I wear the wool.  It's not dying I fear....I just want to be comfortable and not shiverin' my tail off when I need to be hunting.  I've tried cotton in cold, wet weather and didn't like it.
But hey....if you don't mind feeling wet and cold, then enjoy.

I just came in from hunting some blowing snow, rain, cold, and my woolies kept me comfy...now I'm making a nice hot pot of......   :coffee:

Blue jeans are for work and casual wear.....to me they ain't hunting pants. Maybe I just don't get it    :knothead:

Wear whatever you want....but cotton does s%#k in anything but warm weather....it doesn't take 30yrs of experience to figure that out    :banghead:

Biggie and George, I'd luv to join ya!

Yeah Curt and I would luv to share some coffee with you too. My question is Why where blue jeans, there is so much better clothing out there, wether it is some nice Codet wool or a pair of green goretex pants from Dicks. The color thing is funny to me, I shoot arrows with 2 flo. yellow and a baby blue hen and the 140"+ buck I had at 35 yards this evening never noticed me or my arrows and I was on the ground and he stared right thru me. Ian,

The biggest buck I ever got a shot at (12 points with a drop tine) was while still hunting wearing blue jeans.  Jeans, a red plaid flannel shirt, and a blue cordaroy coat....no cammo except the sleeve on my bow.

The shot was about ten feet at a buck, standing broadside, looking away!!  I watched in puzzlement as my arrow did a mid course deviation, went over the bucks back by a foot, and sailed into the forest never to be seen again.  Tail up and off he went, no second shot.  It wasn't for a couple of moments that I realized I had cut down a spindly little maple tree about the size of a pencil about half way between me and the buck!!!  Oh well.....

I have taken a few from a tree-stand wearing jeans and a checked green flannel.
