easiest way is to find a a spot with an overhanging branch on a deer trail, scrape up a section with your boot, and pee in it.

if you're worried about the human pee thing (which I'm absolutely not), straight grocery store ammonia works.  I usually carry a 20oz soda bottle full of ammonia when I'm starting some scrapes.

or you could go the expensive route and buy something like 'scrape juice'....I've even see somewhere where they sold fake scrape dirt!  all gimmicks to separate a hunter from his money IMHO.

I have heard of guys scraping up the dirt from a real scrape and 'transplanting it' to a more suitable hunting location.   may work...never tried it.

this pic is a mock scrape I started probably 8 or 9 years ago, that the deer just took over and made an annual scrape. (the pic is from october 2007)

I've got several pictures of several different bucks  (and does) using this scrape over the last few years.   unfortunately...and alot of the texts about this subject seem to concur....there are nearly ALL late at night.

that doesn't mean I wont do them cause I have personnally witnessed a few bucks actually break off from chasing does to go over and inspect it.

I peed in it on saturday and set up a trail cam as an experiment to see how many pics I get over the week and when they start.

Hickstick,

Glad to hear someone else has luck peeing in scrapes.  The other day I set up a new stand and was explaining what a scrape was to my little boy.  So I took my machette and scratched out a scrape under a likely looking licking branch.  About the same time he's complaining about having to pee.  So I tell him to take a whiz in the scrape.  Came back 3 or 4 days latter and the scrape appears to have been worked over.  I have always been a little leary of this, but the deer don't seem to care.
God is good, all the time!!!
