Small diameter string..what padding for loops?

After the good information I got on another thread regarding performance, I've decided to build an 8strand & 10strand flemish TS1+ strings to try. What string would be suitable for padding loops & how much? Bow is FF compatable.

Not knowing what bow weights your using.....TS-1+ is very smooth shooting and quite on most bows, but creep resistant, it ain't!...8 strands on much over 30#'s is gonna creep a bunch. I use Dacron for padding strands on hunting strings and whatever the string is made from on target strings. I like add enough strands to keep the loops 18-20 strands no matter what strand count I'm using in the main body.

I would add 3 strands per bundle of B50 or what ever you are using.. But be warned, small strings will hurt your fingers, so you will probly need a thick serving material..  I would also make the bundles longer than normal and twist the ends more, to help with the creep you will get.

Those are going to be some real skinny strings! I use 14 strands of TS1, and people call my strings skinny!  

I pad my loops to 18 strands of TS-1, but if you have he B50 you can use that.  You'll probably have to double up the serving under your fingers to get the proper nock fit.  I went down to 10 strands... it was a screamer!

I also use B50 to pad the loops Usually to 18.  I use extra string material to pad the serving to fit my nocks correctly.

The string i'm using now is great it was made by Rod when he was making them it has been on the bow for 2+ years & has performed flawlessly it is 14std D97 if i remember correctly. I am keeping it for hunting & general purpose use.
The thin string I am making is just for play/performance to see what I can squeeze out of my setup. It is a 50# Montana pushing 688gr Griz Alaskan.I chrono a 6 shot average of 152fps yesterday pulling a little under 30".

RM it would be a good experiment. Just as a refference point, I'm currently shooting 4 strands of DF-97 on a 47# bow and am very pleased with it. Padded the loops with 8 strands of B-50 to give 12 total.......O.L.

OL how heavy is the arrow that you are shooting

RM, I had Doc Ed sitting off 20-30' to the side and my "normal" string was 8 strands and a 650 gr arrow. Right off the bat less noise was observed between the 2 to the point all the Doc said he could hear was the arrow. Me doing the shooting, I could tell it was quieter and could also see the arrows were now a bit weak. 450 grain arrows were louder but that would happen with any string or material. I'm thinking it could have as much to do with the padding in the loops as it did the string size....O.L.

Is there a right or wrong way to padding under the serving to get proper nock fit & finger hold? Do you just lay the strands in place & then wrap serving or do you try & twist them in.
I might mention that I can reserve my strings, but I have never built my own, even though I have everything to do it with,video,board,wax,ts1+,crown serving.

RM, what I did with this super light one is served just the finger area with .026" then served as normal with .026". So the finger area is doubled. That came out larger diameter then the other 8 strand string. Just laying in extra strands seems it would be hard to get it round and tight enough but others might have better ideas or better at it then I am. I'm still amazed at how well it feels and sounds. These results could very well be bow "unique", we'll be making a super light string for a Hill bow in a few days to see what happens to it. I hate using super light as a description, it's actually pound test wise what was considered normal back 50-60 years ago in the silk and linen days......O.L.

I'm at 12 stradns with B-50. Great nock fit and great shooters. How for down is safe on a 50# bow????

R sound like a great set up you will have fun building and swisting strings, When I started building strings I had 4 to six for every bow I had...

Yea I'm actually looking forward to string building, just starting fletching yesterday.
I am seeing how small I can go & still control the shaft, right now just tips..no broadheads yet, but 150 el grande will be my test subjects.
