Hey Fellers,
I'll come right out an say that I don't have any pictures to post of my Sunday hunt, because I have the technological mind of a shrew. It is all I can do to post a story so bear with me.
Sunday evening I decided to go sit in my little tree stand because that morning I had seen 15 deer, only three were bucks and they were very young and I had let them pass, so I decided to see what I could see in the PM. I went out there around 4pm and got up in my stand and sipping on an ice tea when 2 very nice bucks wandered in to my stand. There was a 8 point and a 7 point at around 10 yds. The 8 was quite young so I decided to let him grow some more. The 7 however was big...he had serious mass and the side with three points curled waaay and around, he looked to be around 5yrs old. I decided if he came round to my side of the tree I would take him. So I waited and watched as they milled around munching acorns and sniffing each other. Then I heard quite the commotion going on in the woods and out walked two 200+ hogs. The deer didn't seem to mind too much, they just watched them and kept to themselves. I figured I have all season to shoot a buck so I could not pass on the hogs and decided if they gave me an opportunity I would take them. They did. The first came right in front of the tree. I drew back and before I knew what was happening the arrow hit high behind the shoulder passed down through the heart and buried 8" in the ground. She dropped dead right there never making a sound. The other one came up right behind her and I drew back and let fly. She turned alittle and I dead centered her spine. The arrow punched through the spine and the point was pushing through about an inch below her chest. I did not kill her but it did imobilze her instantly to say the least she was making a little noise. So finished her quickly with another arrow to the heart, another pass through. She died instantly after the second arrow and fell on the other hog. It makes a long story but in all reality this all took place in about 35-45 seconds. It was so fast. I looked around to see if anymore were coming in and the deer were still standing there like nothing had happened, they hadn't heard the bow at all. I figured my hunting done for the day so I waited for the deer to leave and climbed down to retrieve my piggies...actually I walked back to the truck and got it to retrieve my piggies. I had to drag them about about 45 yds which was quite far enough. And I laboriously and barely got them into the truck all by my onesy. Getting too old for that me thinks, at least my back says I am today. Sorry about no pics, maybe I can get my beautiful, smart wife to teach me the way of the computer. This is my first huntin' story to post here I hope that ya'll think it is ok. I am happy for getting the bacon, and also putting a dent in the gene pool on my property, destructive little beasties that they are. Hope you enjoy. Until we meet again, keep your noses to the wind and your eyes to the skyline pilgrims.
