Any calling success in Oklahoma?
« on: November 08, 2008, 02:28:00 AM »
I rattled in a button buck.... TWICE the other day but that is my only calling success. I've tried the primos can call, various grunt tube calls but not much luck.

I've tried the snort wheeze too.

I haven't had much luck blind calling. I did pull a nice 8pt. out of thick brush during this black powder season with a snort wheeze call. I don't think I ever would've gotten him without it.

Bucks I've seen are only sparring now in the NW part of the state. It should pick up in about a week here. I have had some luck in the past just tickling the tines lightly in early Nov.

I rattled in that same button buck again... TWICE!!!! This guy really needs some survival training! No luck with the snort wheeze or can.

I used a few fawn cries followed by a doe grunt to bring a good buck into range this weekend.

Howdy all, Just got back to Oklahoma City from a morning drive west to Custer co. Noticed 3 dead deer along I-40. Had a another co-worker who just returned from a morning drive to Marshall co. south on I-35 and she commented on the 6-7 dead deer she saw along the road. It is definetly time to be in the woods. My son hunted last weekend at Ft. Reno on a special youth hunt and I used a fawn Bleat to call in a Coyote. Will be tring a lot of estrus bleats and grunts this weekend.

I rattled up a nice 8 point saturday evening and made a nice shot on him. My buddy works at  mcalester and called me today and said the bucks were going crazy over there. Had one run into his truck parked on the side of the road.

I have a cousin who is hunting the Mcalester AAP this weekend. hoping he gets a chance at a good one with his Widow. Can't wait to hear his stories. We have been seeing lots of deer, just no big bucks.

About 9 miles West of Muskogee. Nothing this morning. Maybe the moon?  I'm going to try an afternoon hunt tomorrow.

The moon is sure bright and full these days, but I am glad we are going to have some cool temps finally. Supposed to be 34 degrees in the morning and 30 degrees Sunday. I am looking forward to trying a sleeping Indian wool parka I just got from a member on the classifieds

Called in a nice ten point this evening. I had tried rattling, the can and snort wheeze. I had been using the can about 20 minutes before I smelled this livestock smell. I thought sure smells like a buck! I knew there weren't any cows on this property so I got my bow and stood up about 30 seconds before he came into view at 25 yards. I'm not a great guess of antler size but he was a little smaller than Shaun Webb's buck up top. He went to the wrong side of the tree " of course". My stand made the tiniest little "tic" and he zeroed in on me in a milisecond! He never really nade me though so maybe he'll be back. An interesting note: The snort wheeze sent him packing when I tried to call him back. I think a decoy out front would have had him circle down wind of it and into a shooting lane for me. Gonna try that next time.

Oh and turkeys were going nuts this evening! Gobbling to beat the band!
