I have two bows. One is 42# and the other is 41#. I placed an order the first week of September for a third bow (recurve) for 35# and although I chose it for 3D and small game (frogs, rabbits, javelina), I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a deer with it.

Anywhere in the 40 to 50lb range is fine with me for anything I will hunt.Slower bows I would tend to use the mid to higher end of the range while with the better bows the lower end is just fine.
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

Lots of people here complaining of shoulder injuries.
How many of you sustained your injuries because of archery?

Low to mid fifties for me.  I like the performance on game of upper fifties bows, but I don't shoot them nearly as well anymore, so I settle for the lower poundage.

i like to find my arrows stuck into trees after zipping through intended game like it was butter. 65lbs is my fav.

not being macho....i just shoot it better than i do lighter poundage bows

I like 50-60# but, for most big game 50# is enough.  Ben

I have shot bows in the 65+ range for a long, long time. I have a 29" draw and the heaviest bow I currently hunt with is 73lbs at my draw- my favorite is 68 or 69 lbs. If or when these start to hurt I won't hesitate to drop weight and really don't have an opinion of what "optimum" bow weight is- individual preference I guess. If it gets you draggin' its plenty in my book.                      Grant

I have found , that I am more consistent with 54-58 pounds at 30 inches. Just works for me.
