Southern York PA bunny huntin'
« on: November 09, 2008, 04:07:00 PM »
I'm finally getting settled here in Southern York, PA, so I'd like to start doing a little more local hunting. Anyone know if the game lands are any good for bunnies? I haven't been here long, so feel free to point me in any good direction.

Khard, I don't know about the gamelands but I have had good luck with the amish farmers allowing rabbit hunting. I'd start with them.  Good Luck  Greg

Used to be a lot of rabbits and pheasants around Dillsburg area.  You may want to check with the regional game protector and get some local info.

Maybe they're all in the woods...

I live in Wrightsville, not far from York. There a couple of guys on here from around the county. There are even a few from Lancaster county. Like George Stout said, there are some game lands in the area, some close to Dillsburg, some more by York- New Salem, there are even some down your way, although I've never hunted those.

I know where wrightsville is. I drive through there pretty often. As for game lands, I know there are some down 74, though I don't know what they are like.

Are the game lands in York County pretty busy, or is there room to roam? I don't want to show up ready to hunt only to find out that I've stepped on the toes of some good ole boys club.

You'll find that the game lands around here are pretty beat down, even the squirrels flee for their life at the sight of a human. Your best bet is to try to find some private land. on second thought, Spring Valley Park might be a good place to try. They allow limited deer hunting, and I know that it's pretty thick along the trout stream, but you have to get a permit. I'm also unclear on small game hunting there.Your best bet for the real skinny is to call York County Parks, they'll tell you the rules. The number is 840-7440.

Haha! You like spring grove that much huh? I'm thinkin of hitting up the game lands on 74 down near Delta in the next couple of weeks. If anyone is bored, I wouldn't mind company. Toss me a PM.
