I would still go along and take my bow or video camera.  Sounds like too much of a good time to pass up.

I have shot one deer with a rifle and the thrill of the hunt just wasn't there.  Like was said above, if I can see it I can hit it with a gun.

When I hunted with a 'wheeled-carbon/aluminum tube launching device' I even refused to use a release.  My thoughts were that if I was going to use sights and a trigger I just as well use a gun.  There was just no challenge in that for me.

He went today and had a doe sneak up to within 20 yards which he missed with a shotgun. I asked how he missed that close and he said when you're having a heart attack it's hard to hold the sight steady. LOL

We talked and I will be carrying my bow. He said he figured I would all along.

My son is 39 now and due to business pressures of he and his wife owning a business and raising two girls the fire for the hunt has mostly burned out or burns very low.  We play golf now and then which is plenty of fun for father and son to spend time together and I'm sure he appreciates it just as much as a hunt. The key point is spending time together as father and son whether it be fishing, golf, or hunting.

I have two grandaughter and 3 grandsons so there's hope for one of them becoming a hunter maybe.

The gun thing was never really an issue. I just have no desire to hunt with a gun but I would have used a slingshot if I had to in order to hunt with him. I always have hunted with him or alone he is my best friend.
