So, I am going on a family vacation to Maui this April. I was wondering if anyone else had any firsthand knowledge about hunting pigs or goats on public land there. Any help is appreciated.

Make sure you have to have a hunter safety certificate with you. no certificate no license.

Do they (Hawaii) accept/acknowledge a valid hunter's license in other state? (As proof of hunter's ed.)

Don't know the answer to this all.  It's my understanding that his is the way Georgia is set up.   Thinking back on it though I bought a fishing license in Smyrna this summer with no-nothing.  Might be a bit different but I don't know with the way they guard their trout.

Either way...definitely make sure you know what they want in order to get a license.  Never been there but it IS a volcano island so I'd have a good pair of boots.

Sorry but I no can help you with hunting da Friendly isle as I'm on da Big Island of Hawaii.

I will however echo Soilarch and reccomend a good pair of boots. The lava can be pretty brutal on one's feet. I'm already on my second pair of boots fo da year.

I'm pretty sure that if you do decide to hunt, expect to hunt spot an stalk.(AND) Make sure you bring plenty liquid with you. It can get pretty hot and humid.

You might want to check You Tube under Hawaii archery hunting. Some friends post there. Also search Hawaii goat hunt. This might give you a rough idea of what to expect.

I live on Maui and there is a lot of pig hunting here and lots of pigs!  Unlike the Big Island, lava is not a problem where the pigs are on Maui.

I just got back from a recent elk hunt in Canada. Had a great time.  But I can't bring myself to hunt here in Hawaii.  I have lived on Maui for 11 years and for some reason it just doesn't appeal to me to hunt here.  I think it is the lack of cold weather and the tropical foliage.  Just doesn't feel like a "hunting" environment to me.  I know that may sound goofy, but I simply prefer the feel of the Rockies when I hunt.

But there are lots of pigs!  Did I already say that?

They have awesome turkey hunting. A year round mating season cause of the weather.
