Grizzley Single Bevels Question
« on: November 14, 2008, 10:30:00 AM »
I found some griz single bevels at a garage sale but not sure how to tell if left or right wing bevel. Still in the package but nothing that says what they are. Can you guys help?

Thanks
Terry

Terry, it really doesn't matter which bevel they have for hunting most NA animals. Grizzly's have always had the single bevel, as far as I know, and it wasn't until just recently that they gave you the option of right or left bevel.    Pat

Terry,
Lay them flat with the point away from you, if the bevel is on your right, they are right bevel.
Use right wing feathers on the arrow.
I haven't heard that Grizzly's come with a left bevel, Pat B may know something that I haven't heard yet.

Maybe they haven't come out with the opposite bevel. With all the talk about single beveled broad heads and Dr Ashley preferring the Grizzly design I just assumed it.

All past and current Grizzlies are RH bevel.

There have been some rumors that a LH version will possibly be available in the future but for now, if you have a Grizzly broadhead... it's a RH.

Anyone else try shooting the grizzly with a LH Helical? I have at a 3d target. That nice "S" shaped entrance is greatly reduced.

Well it arrives there spinning one way and the broadhead wants to spin the other. Wastes energy changing directions.

I've only shot one deer with a grizzly and my fletching was left wing. This doe was 8' from my tree(I was up 10') and the arrow went almost straight down through her. That probably isn't a good example.
I realize that there is some lost energy with the bevel one way and the fletching the other but on most NA animals I'm not sure it matters. I never noticed any difference in my arrow flight whether they had single or double beveled broadheads. I use both on trade points I make also but am leaning more to the single bevel.

I have killed several mullies with griz and left helical. No penetration issues on deer sized game. having said that I have begun to make my own left bevel trade point. Because every little bit helps.

On deer size game, you will have no difficulty with pass-throughs, even with left-wing.

Like Sharpster said, there are only right beveled factory Grizzlies out there.  Grizzly has talked of introducing left beveled heads but it hasn't happened yet, we will see.

I used Grizzlies with left helical fletching for years with good results before I knew any better, but I was just shooting whitetails.  I now use right helical for Grizzly arrows.  Anything I can do to make my set up better, I will do.

Grizzlies and left wing fletch is all I used for years and never had a problem hunting whitetails. Even cleared the far shoulder on a doe once. Never knew anyone else made a single bevel bh until I discovered the Abowyers, now that's what's on the end of my arrows.
