new bow
« on: November 14, 2008, 12:19:00 PM »
Hello everyone.  I am thinking of buying a new bow and was wondering if anyone has any pros or cons about the Tred Barta longbow or the Bear Kodiak recurve.  Thanks for any advice.

I have a Tred Barta bow.  Its made by Martin and is the smoothest shooting bow I have ever shot.  Everyone that shoots it agrees.  But no two bows are the same.

Well what you need to ask yourself is do you want a longbow or a recurve.

Like DuffyRP said, not two bows are the same, even the same model and weight, so make sure you try the bows you are looking at before you buy it and then buy the one you shot.

I started with longbow, and then I found I was better with the recurve.  Like others have said, if you can get a chance to shoot 'em do so, you hate to spend that much money on a bow and find out you like it, because I've done that.

With the Kodiak you can try that one, and probably sell it for the same thing you paid for it, not so with the Barta bow.

If that your first bow, make sure you don't over bow yourself.  I'd also check into the whisperstikbows.com, he makes a great product, and is a great guy to work with, starts out of $475, doesn't cost anything to look, and he probably send you one to try, if he has one in stock.

Used Bear bows are often reasonably priced. A used bow is a fine place to start. Check the TG classifieds for various used models.

I have a 50# longbow and was thinking of going to a 60# or 65# recurve.  I've had my longbow for awhile just never shot it much been shooting it steady for four or five months and love it.  My kids are showing an intrest in it instead to the crossbow.  4rnr I'm in lake county. Thanks again everyone.
