Any one ever WARF a Darton 50MX???
«

I stumbled across the carcass of the the old compound I started hunting with when I was a teen. I opened the case about 10 years ago to shoot it and this is what I found!!!
I ordered a Bear Kodiak Mag and haven't looked back since.
This got me to thinking......does anyone make limbs that will fit this thing? Recurve of course. :D
Any one with any info on limbs please let me know.
Thanks'

Do a search on WARF bows.
That's a good enough reason to make the switch!

Well, they'd still be compound limbs...but Barnsdale can and will make anything you want. I've seen some beautifully veneered compound limbs from him. AND they're generally regarded as bullet and bombproof.
In case you want to restore for old nostalgia's sake.

I think it has a lot to do with limb angle. From the looks of the pic it's very possible. I know some Dartons are "warfable".

Here's one that I made from a darton excel. I cut the built-in overdraw off and had a friend machine out the slots to lighten it up a bit. The limbs are from a 1-piece Groves spitfire. I cut the limbs off and made them fit the riser. I also made a set of longbow limbs I had laying around fit it too. Shoots great so it can be done you just have to get creative. I think a set of limbs from Quinn archery could be made to fit and be quite reasonable price wise.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys.
I think the 50MX's limbs and pockets are a little goofy.
See what I mean?
I think I would have to get really creative.
Perhaps I'll find some cheap limbs and start tinkering. :D

Mick: I had Sid at Border make me a warf with some HEX IV limbs and a Black Bear riser. He took the half round rockers off the compound limbs and epoxied (??????) them to tht HEX IV limbs. Now the bow is adjustable for a few pounds but more importantly for tillering. You may need to be creative but I bet if you're willing to work/think about it you could do something with it. Sid used all the limb attachment hardware from the compound limbs. Made a nice bow.

Mick here's what I did for the longbow limbs. Since the limb pad is flat on that riser you could bolt down the limb with the bolt that came with the compound. Get your limbs true with the center of the bow then drill through the limb into the riser with a 1/4" drill. Then you epoxy the pin in the hole in the riser. Glue a decorative piece of wood over the hole in the limb and you've got a solid mounted limb.

A friend gave me a Darton SL 50 handle years ago. I built a takedown recurve that the handle split on. So I put the limbs on the Darton handle. I used PC-7 epoxy putty and filled the grooves in the handle to over flow after first coating the handle in Pam for a releasing agent. I had drilled and installed two little pins in each limb to stick into the putty. I put the limbs on the bow and strung it. I shifted the limbs slightly to center the string and let it dry. It's stayed perfect for the last 8 yrs. I use it for bow fishing a lot and it has been shot thousands of times. I have also killed deer with it. It is very fast and doesn't stack. Even though it isn't the same limb angle as the original handle had, it actually performs better with this handle. It was very easy to do. Good luck and if you have any questions you can PM me. Bob

WOW Bob, If that riser isn't the same it's really close to the 50MX. Nice Job!
I may have to take that route with the epoxy.

Here is a pic of a Martin take down.Well actually this is a StCharles Buckskin signuture riser same thing. The limbs on the Martins were mounted with two ball bearings. If possible to find a set of those limbs they can be adapted to lots of different risers using the pam & epoxy molded sockets. The bolt hole is standard on most take downs and should be the same on your riser..bd
