Sam,
No offence sir but I think you made a BIG mistake. If ya had to tell him to stay OFF your property knowing what kind of person he was you should have pressed charges. You basically just told him you weren't very serious about policing your own property. I mean hell, what more does he have to do!?? Not only that but you plan to change the way YOU hunt instead of it being the other way around.
I reckon so

before we go too far out on this one, let me just say the guy who got this deer was on his own property, hunting legally and ethically I'm sure. He is, to my knowledge, a guy who hunts hard and probably had as much time into this buck as I did.

I don't begrudge the guy at all. As a matter of fact I really am happy for the guy. I'm told a deer's home range is roughly 4 square miles. that's 2560 acres, of which I own 78. I knew going into it there was only a slim chance of actually succeeding. I think the only thing that really is bumming me out is that the "game", at least with this particular buck, is over and I lost. So be it. There will be others I'm sure, but for the rest of this year anyway, any deer with headgear better get down a rabbit hole and not come out till Christmas!  :D

As I'm sure you know Brent, it's all part of the journey.....even without getting him you have some pretty good memories.  You know going in how hard it is to hunt and shoot a particular deer, it is a decision we all live with when we make it.  Good for you, now go shoot something......      :archer:

I think Koger lectured them as they were on posted land - trespassin.

I don't think bbassi was saying the deer was his and faulting anyone for shooting "his" deer as they are not his. Just like knowing a deer is out there when in the woods. kinda the mystique behind a certain buck.

Chased one for years when I was a kid, to see him was almost unreal. almost a figment of my imagination but he was real. He was never taken - in my area one that large makes the papers. He musta just died of natural causes, so he is still "out there somewhere." Keeps ya goin back and day dreamin in the off season.

Coming on to posted land without permission is not only unethical, but illegal...

Thanks for the added detail, koger.  That really stinks that the deer were killed as they were - by a law-breaker.

Not only is it illegal but if he had a firearm while trespassing it is a felony!
