how do I quiet down my tab ?
« on: November 20, 2008, 09:26:00 AM »
After using gloves for years I now use a cavalier elite cordovan tab and I LOVE the way it shoots, so please dont tell me to change to "this or that tab"

My problem is that many times there is a tiny "schlack" as the cordovan smacks into the leather backing on release.
Anybody knows how to fix this ?
Thanks
Jacob

Have you trimmed the tab face?

I'll just echo Rod on this one.

Any tab that I use that is "layered" I use some Elmers glue or Leatherweld and glue the things together (keep the natural curve in the tab as it dries). I don't really see the need for the layers (just makes a tab thicker to me) and nothing much more exasperating than getting the bowstring between layers in a hurry up and shoot situation.

I use angel tabs and I have a huge hand(sausage fingers) and I trim about 3/8ths. of an inch  from them. Shawn

I use string wax, and no doubt the pich blend works too.
If it's in your way, move it.

Hi fellars
Thanks for all the advice
I just tried trimming the tab face a little and it seems to do the trick.
If it start making "schlacks" again I will definately try applying some kind of leathergrease, stringwax or so
Thanks
Jacob

I don't know what the thickness of the Cavalier tab is, but I just trimmed the leather backing off of my 3Rivers cordovan tab back to the stitching. I didn't see the need for the second layer. It just makes noise and gets in the way. I thought about gluing the two together, but I don't like such a thick tab anyway.

Like you, I am just experimenting with tabs. I haven't given up on my Duraglove yet. I still have more confidence in my shot with the glove.

Personaly I would not glue the layers together it changes the feel to a much stiffer piece of leather.
