Blinds and Cold weather

Anyone use portable propane heaters in your blinds?
If so what kind and how quiet are they?

Gary... I use a little Coleman Sport Cat heater. It will just barely take the chill off unless you really button up the blind. Then it gets downright comfy!

I also have one of those cheap little fleece sleeping bags they sell at WalMart in the sporting goods section.
Wrap that around ya with the heater under your seat so the warmth rises up into the wrap and it's plum luxurious.

Sounds like the same thing I use.  A bottle lasts about 6-7 hrs.  I have thought about getting one of the Heater Buddies, which I person could use a 20 lb. bottle and hide it in the brush behind my pop up blind.  Anything helps before the sun gets up.

I assume you mean a pop-up blind?  It gets pretty cold here and I've not seen the need for a heater in my Brickhouse as long as I've dressed adequately.  The advantage of the blind with regard to cold weather is that it cuts the wind...which makes it ALOT easier for warm clothes to work well.  A heater and its associated smells or smoke, especially when bowhunting (where close range shots are the norm) would seem to provide a hefty dose of 'Here I am, here I am!' to any critters that amble by.  Besides, the last thing I need when sitting inside a flammable little popup tent is a fire burning under my arse.        

Bring some extra clothes and a hot drink...you're good to go.

trashwood then you sure would not hunt a lot in upstate NY. We get snow from early Oct and even had 30 inches on MOther day a few years back.  NOw for me it is when the wind chill is below 10 degrees, I find I sure can not draw and hold that bow that felt so good shooting 3D in July...

I still go with the layers approach to keeping warm. Have a back pack that keep a extra sweat shirt, also a 3xl vest to go over everthing.

a pop up blind and small propane heater are definitely on my "to get" list for next year.

My uncles always used a "paint pot" while deer hunting in N.Y. and P.A. they take a clean paint can remove the label and paint and place charcoal brickets from the bbq grill in the can. punch a few draft holes with a can opener in the bottom 1-2 inches from the bottom. light them up untill they turn greyish and shake the can to get them hot, just like the grill. bring an old woll army blanket and wrap it over your shoulders and place the "paint pot" between your legs. Works well and the deer dont seem to mind the smell. they are gun hunters but has numerous racks to prove they dont mind the smell.he kills most of his deer within 40 yards. Do not use the brickets with the lighter fluid in them.just one or two to get it started, then switch to standard type. Hope this helps you out.

Hey Trashwood - I use mine in Texas as well.  Works really good for javelina.  Lets you get away with a lot more movement, you just have to be sure the wind is right.  I leave it set up for a week down there, but only use it when the wind is in my face.  
Have had turkeys walk close enough I could have grabbed them by the neck.  Now that would be a real fight on your hands.

I put heat packs in chest and front leg pockets to warm my core. That and Merino wool baby!
