Hi, I am looking for a place or outfitter to put together a Texas whitetail hunt for 2009. Would love to find someone who would cater to the trad hunters needs some if possible. I dont mind paying for a good hunt, but also dont want to (and cant!!) spend 4 or 5k or more for a high dollar ranch.
Where have you guys been, or who do you recommend?

Thanks,
Van Bateman

Brazos Archery Outfitters(John Shelley). The Johnson Ranch. Newcastle, TX. 100 miles north of Dallas/Ft. Worth airport. Open range hunting. Archery only. P&Y whitetails killed just about every year. Pictures and video available on web page. Stands set up by bowhunters for bowhunters. Deer, Turkey, Feral hogs, etc. Sleeping quarters. Good opportunity to take a quality whitetail without a trophy fee. At last check, $400 per day, three day minimum but don't quote me on this. Check out their web page. Tell John that "Wild Bill from Ovilla" told you top call.

Danny Rowan

Brush Country Bowhunting Freer, Texas.

Great operation and good price, no trophy fees.

I stand corrected. Actually called Brazos Archery Outfitters for you. Current price is $300 per day/3 day minimum or 5 days for $1,200.

Bill, wouldn't 100 miles north of DF/W be in Oklahoma?

Those two places mentioned get good reviews. Go to TexasBowHunter.com and go to the forum "Rate the Day Lease" for more information and other good places to check out.
Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.

the guy who makes palmer bows is an outfitter.  he has been on eiclers show several times and it looks top notch.

I don't choose the deer, the deer chooses me.

Why did you select Texas?  Just curious.

You might want to check with homermartinranch.com
It is a 2500 acre ranch located in Mason county which has the highest deer density per acre in Texas. I went there for three years in a row from '96-'98. Took my first shot(12 steps) at a spike deer my first day there. My string hit my bow arm real hard and the arrow went about 4 yards! Rules have changed since then because of management efforts but this is a super place to hunt for an unbelievable price. 3 day hunts are $450. includes lodging but no meals. Details are on his web page. Great place to go especially if you like to guide yourself. Bowhunts only and these deer are super smart! Also has hogs and turkey and pays bounties on coyotes and bobcats!
I don't think you'll be disapointed. Mike

George, Ah, the allure of Texas! I have always wanted to go there. Something about hunting the brush country I guess. Lived in NC my whole life. Great hunting and I have pretty good success. Just something different I guess.
I am open to other states as well if you know of any good places that cater towards the longbow man.
That being said, I am looking for a "chance" at a good buck maybe 130ish if we have to attach a score, without the $4k price tag. I know I am probably being unrealistic, and do love the hunt just for the hunt. I am known to over research everything, and just want the best time for my money.

Sorry, my mistake. More like NW of Dallas/Ft. Worth. Wouldm't want to send anyone to Oklahoma. That's where I hunt.  :banghead:
