5/16" Wingnut Weight?
« on: March 05, 2007, 07:16:00 PM »
Making up a batch of wingnutters, and just curious: How much does a 5/16" wingnut weigh, if anyone knows?

My reloading scale is not the most accurate but I get 120grs.
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

The ones I hve weigh in at 210 grains on my 3 Rivers electronic scale.  The regular nuts weighed in at 120 grains.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Seems pretty heavy, Walt. I think that may be a 3/8" wingnut, and not a 5/16", because I know Southpawshooter makes up a head composed of a 8/32" machine screw, a small nut, a washer, and a 5/16" wingnut that weighs in at 210 grains...

If your going to use them on aluminium or carbon arrows,I know that a 1/4" wingnut and a stainless steel 1" 8-32 flat head machine screw (w/beeswax) weigh 125grs.

I like the 5/16" for my wood arrows, but I use the 1/4" with the screw for my aluminium 2016's   :bigsmyl:

BTW, Next year for the prize table I'm going to make up little bags with 1 dozen 1/4" wingnuts and a dozen waxed 1" 8-32 flathead screws. All bagged and ready to hunt!!!!!    :archer:

(all ya gotta do is win them LOL)

Heck, what a deal. Course, hitting the targets required to win 'em is easier said than done...
