Shrew Bow lengths
« on: November 26, 2008, 08:15:00 PM »
I am thinking of getting a SS Recurve (for hunting out of treestands and ground blinds).  I would appreciate any feedback on your experiences with the 54, 56 or 58" lengths (my draw length is 26" and am considering a draw weight between 45# and 50#).  Thanks!

My Li'l Favorite is 54", and I am convinced it is the ultimate treestand/ground hunting bow. My draw is close to 28", no pinch, excellent shooting bow.

I totally agree with Roger.  I have a 54" and a 58" and they are both awesome bows.  I dont think you could go wrong with either but for hunting out of tree stands and ground blinds a 54" would be perfect!!

I have a 56" and it's great. My arrows are on their way from Paul Jalon. Then I will be ready

I've got a 56 and it is great!  Would love a 54 (maybe next year:)), and wish they made a 52 like my old bear kodiac mag.

With that draw length, you might consider a 52" Classic Hunter. I draw 28" with a 54" CH at 55# and not a hint of string pinch or stack. I reckon Ron will check in here before long.

I agree with Dave2old about the best Shrew for your draw length. Since you are talking about hunting out of ground blinds and tree stands, a shorter bow would seem to be desirable. The Classic Hunter is the way to go on a longbow, but if you prefer a recurve take a look at the Lil Favorite. A 54" is more than long enough for you, and a 52" would work fine, I would think. I have both 54" and 56" Classic Hunters and they are both fine at my 29 1/2" draw length. The Classic Hunter and Lil Favorite are made with shorter risers than the Super Shrews, so more of the length is working limbs and that allows a shorter bow for the same draw length. You will love a Shrew. They are incredible bows. Like anything, there are always tradeoffs, but Gregg and Ron have done a great job of making all the right tradeoffs to arrive at a short, light, good-shooting bow. Please don't ask me if mine are for sale - THEY ARE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    :archer:

Near Miss -- first off , you won't go wrong with any Shrew you decide to go with. My wife Cindy and I are both currently shooting 54" Li'l Favorites, mine is 54# Cindy's is 49# at our  26&1/2" draw length. These have been our go to bows for the last 3 years. Cindy has killed 4 deer with hers , 2 doe's and 2 very nice bucks all from one of our HiddenHunter ground blinds. The Li'l Favorite, like all Shrews is very comfortable in your hand and  just plain ol'e feels good when you pick it up. But what I feel is more important is this bow is deadly quiet and very stable and smooth in your hand. Now the bonus, they are "fast",not that speed is everything but we aren't going to complain.
Hope this info helps , but please give Ron a call, he is a wealth if information and very easy to talk to. Good hunting -- Gus
