Vintage Fred Bear Kodiak Magnum

this bow was at least made in the 1970's i got it from a friend that REALLY didnt know what he had, neither did the people at the yard sale....

i just found out to day that it was a 45#er, i estimated that it was about 50#s and i was only off by 5#s. not too bad.

it was covered with paint and i realized that it prolly looked better without the paint on it so i started takin it off last night, ill find out how to put pics on here and ill let yall see the project as i go along.

im gonna remove all the paint and refinish it, any tips would be appreciated, like whats the best product that will remove paint and not hurt the glue that it is glued together with.

Depending on the paint and if you are careful, you may well be able to remove the paint and not hurt the finish.. I have used Acetone and paper towels but that scares me as it might dissolve the original finish.
I like better to use 0000 steel wool and mineral spirits. Then polish the steel wool tracks with fiberglass boat polish, and maybe finish with a wax, or you may rub a couple coats of Tru oil on before the wax.

WD-40 and some good old elbow grease has worked well for me! It's always fun removing that paint and watching the finish appear.

I've used acetone or fingernail polish remover which has acetone in it and have not had it hurt the finish.

i just had fun with a 180 grit sanding block and 220 grit papre and 400 grit paper.
