Finished my first woods...
« on: November 28, 2008, 04:00:00 PM »
This was my first try at wood arrows.I will say this, they take alot longer than the carbons I've been doing. I did a dozen each, 6 of each have BH's ,6 have target points. The green ones are 56-58 spine. The yellow ones are 59-60 spine.I wish I had a techinical reason for the gray cocks, But the truth is that was all I had.   :)   The yellow are about 560gr(within 8 gr),the green are about 575gr(within 7gr).I used Olde Maple stain. I did cheat and use Onestringer wraps. I think a crester is next on the list.

Thanks guys. I started with 100 shafts, seperated out the bent ones. I tapered & stained the straight ones. Then I went to a friend who has a spine tester and seperated them in groups. I came home and seperated the groups into groups by weight. Like I said it took longer than my carbons, but it sure was worth it...Roy

Blindone - clearly you are not with that job.

Can you tell me where you got your 100 shafts - were they dowels purchased at a big box hardware store?

The shafts came with the bow when I purchased everything from my uncle. I have 76 shafts left that I didnt like out of the 100. I'm kind of picky about what I shoot and If I only had 6 out of the 100 that would work then I would have gotten more to make a full dozen...Roy

They look nice. You could make FLU-FLU arrows out of the 76 shafts left. You would have alot of fun chasing squirrels, rabbits, pheasants around. If you don`t want the rest of the shafts,PM me.

I'm going to do some flu flu's also. I need to play with some that arent straight and figure out how to fix them.I still have a bunch of straight ones left. I will use them for hunting also , but I just wanted these to match as close as possible.
