I've always fantisized about how fun it would be to shoot hogs with my longbow. Seeing the pictures of hog harvests on the internet just fueled the flame. Well, yesterday I was deer hunting and after sitting in the same spot for an hour or so, I hear a twig snap. My heart naturally speeds up a bit hoping a deer will step out of the brush. I hear another step and finally detect movement in the brush. I see a black mass and at first think it is a calf. Then it moves closer and, "Oh my goodness!" it's a hog! A BIG hog! While it is in the brush I pick up my cheap camera and take a few pics because I expect it to exit the other side toward a feeder. Lo and behold, it circles around and comes out in front of me! I still had the camera and took another picture. I was shaking like crazy and truthfully, hoping he wouldn't see me or come any closer because I was downright scared! I set my camera down and he scampered off into the brush. As I sat there regaining my composure, I got frustrated because there was the moment I have waited for, and I blew it. Hopefully there will be a next time and I will try harder to shoot him with my bow instead of my camera. Ya know, I still can't wait to cut my teeth on a hog, but I know for sure I don't want one to cut his teeth on me! Here is a pic of him at about 16 yards. I think he heard my camera click because by the time I set my camera down after this shot, he was gone. His back looked to be about 3 feet high and I know nothing about judging weight but he sure looked like he would push 300# to me. Of course everything looks bigger when you are scared!
