Split-Finger Gapping
« on: December 02, 2008, 09:18:00 PM »
I am experimenting with adjusting my shooting style.  I am wanting to try some form of split-vision and/or gapping method to make my shooting more consistent.  Let me hear from you guys and gals ... can you give me an overview of your style and your gap to get me started?

I am shooting a longbow #50@28 and cedar arrows.  My draw is around 27.5 inches.

I have been shooting trad about 2.5 years and really settled in on shooting instinctive, and have shot well with it, but lately my shooting has suffered and I am wanting to experiment with some other shooting methods to try and sure up my accuracy.

Thanks in advance.

Split vision to me starts out as gapping then goes strictly instinctive. At first you you focus on both the target and point. After a year or two you go on auto pilot and just focus on on your spot. How it works is it gives your mind a frame of reference which after practice sets for different shots. If your form is on it's absolutely deadly accurate at many distanceses.
I shoot three under to keep the arrow closer to my eye. Take your time, at first it's abit awkward. Then one day the sight picture is clear as can be. Then work on distance and angles. I shoot out to 45yds, it makes your closer proximity focus that much stronger.  Good Luck
