BHTGdogs, you seem to have a few bows there listed. Does this bear shoot as hard as other bows you have shot? Thats the only thing I am wondering.

i had one years ago and the finger pinch was so great i traded it.

i do have short stubby fingers, though. for guys with smaller fingers they may work well.
i was told by a sales person, when purchasing an out-of-date newpaper that it was out-of-date...

i told her "i've been told i'm out-of-date, too"...

does that mean i'm up-to-date?

If anone is interested in a bargain I saw a new Super Mag hanging at the Bass Pro Outlet here in S'field.  It was missing the coin, and I think it was 55# and $140.

I own two a 1966 #52 and a 2007 #55 love them both, but I like the '66 better.  They are really fun to shoot and would not trade them for the world; I use them for everything.  I have a short draw (25") so I do not worry about stacking or finger pinch.  I find the '66 grip a little better as it seems to force the wrist a little higher.  Besides they are PURTY.

ChadF; the only super mags that I have shot are Grayling bows and they are not slow. I fact I heard a rumor that they were Graylings fastest bows. I don't notice a big difference between them and any other similar weight bear bows that I have. Mine is not as fast as my widow in that weight or my pronghorn. But it was made in the seventies and that is still pretty good. I don't have a chronograph but I can tell by what arrows they shoot well with as I have a good progression of arrows in ascending spine and total weight. I don't like to shoot light arrows either. 10 grains per pound or higher.
But the super mag is a great bow that might even be a pinch faster than other comparable bows. It kind of has horse bow characteristics.

love the super mag 48 and have owned several.  killed a couple hogs with one and its all i bowfish with these days.  james parker makes a 48" bow that is a rocket launcher.  he even makes them with bamboo on the belly.  i have both of his versions and i can't figure out which i like the best.

Chad, I ran to the bow shop tonight and chrono'ed all of my bows to let you know what I was getting. All bows were shot with a footed CX150, 50 grn insert, 125 grn head(meaning the SAME arrow), total arrow weight of 520grns. Results:
Hoyt Gamegetter 2, 50#@28"= 3 shot avg. of 178 fps.
Centaur longbow(all wood and glass, no carbon), 51#@28"= 3 shot avg. of 184 fps.
Bear Super Magnum 48, 50#@28"= 3 shot avg. of 162 fps.
I have not scaled the Hoyt or Bear to check if the weight is as marked, but I will tell you that the Bear feels light. I will say that I really like the bow, despite it being somewhat slower. And it took significantly less to quiet down than my Hoyt, nothing but some cat wiskers. I hope this has helped.

I have a 48" Bear Super Mag, a 52" Bear Kodiak Mag and a 52" Cascade Golden Hawk Mag. I draw 27". The Super Mag has some finger pinch and I cannot shoot it very long. The Kodiak Mag is a little better. The Cascade draws smooth out past 28" and has much less finger pinch. I use it for hunting and also 3d shooting with no problems. I can shoot the Cascade more accurately too. Jim

My 43# Super Mag is an older model that I finally had time to set the brace height and quiet the noise.  What a fun little bow to shoot....lots of fun!!!!
