Ocala Florida?
« on: December 12, 2008, 10:33:00 PM »
So, mom has moved to ocala, and i know she would dearly love for us to come visit....
any tradgangers in the area that could tell me what sort of pig hunting or bowfishing opportunities might be available?
how about gators? is that a drawing?
i know that ocala is smack dab in the middle, some ways from the coast... what is there to do there?
tell me how close you got, not how far you shot

Ahhh the ocala national forest... beware there are wild monkeys released back when they Filmed the old tarzan movies... Anything I knew about it was 25+ years ago... Look up the Florida fish and wildlife website... Yeah there should be plenty of hawgs, snakes, gators, and some awesome  bass fishing... its also where the silver springs park is... lots to do..

I work in Ocala. Live about 25 minutes south in the big town of Weirsdale.  TBOF (tbof.org or the mesage board here at tradgang)holds all of our shoots about 15 minutes east of there in the forest. There is a very active archery club in Ocala (Forest Archers) and they shoot every Wednesday evening.

Gator hunting is a draw and it ain't as easy as it sounds.  I would strongly recommend a guide.  There is a lot of public land available for deer and hogs and there are ample fishing and bowfishing opportunities as well.  Lake George is a common destination for bowfishing because of the talapia, but almost every body of water can offer you gar, bowfin, etc.

Give me a shout when you come down to see your family and we will try to put something together.

I have shot the TBOF spring shoot in March. Its a good shoot and they have a few venders, all in all a good time. You should check it out.

homerdave,
I also live in Ocala. Keep in touch when you are coming down this way.  I hunt in a club with plenty of hogs and year 'round access, so don't worry if your trip doesn't coincide with our hunting season dates. I also do some bowfishing but in salt water in the gulf.
You would be more than welcome to hunt or fish with me sometime.

Homerdave, check out the folks in Traditional Bowhunters of Florida for good info about the area.  They are good folks -  even Gregg Dudley. Also, they put on some really good 3D shoots right there in Ocala. I have driven down from central Georgia a couple of times to shoot with them and really enjoyed these folks. I am sure they will help you.

Give a shout when you get close Dave. I have some property about 20 miles north of Ocala. Plenty of hogs, turkey and some deer.

Dave,
My above invitation still stands!  I hunt a 4500 private lease and have a guest membership so you are more than welcome.
November will be general gun season however and a lot of the guys run deer hounds, so bowhunting is a little more difficult but doable.
