Ok, somebody with tons of 'puter smarts needs to figure out how to save all that info.
There's no way I could do it but I do find myself going there just to look something up to make sure I'm right...it will be missed.

I'm with 2Knives, but I'm not sure it will all disappear. He may just transfer to the new site and be up and running...I hope.

You can save the pages to your computer. Just choose save page as in your file menu. Then you can even access them offline.

Thanks, Dave. It would certainly be worth the effort.

Does anybody know how to contact the Ferret and ask him what he is planning to do with all the great information he has on his sight and is there anyway it could be transferred to TradGang

Mickey's pages are pictorials rather than websites.  They are generally a page of thumbnail images that are linked to the full-size images.  That means saving them is tedious.  The most effective way is to simply save all the images on your hard drive.  It's tedious but sure-fire.

If you simply save the page, it still references the image location which apparently will no longer be valid in February.

Extracting them as a PDF will only save a snapshot of the thumbnails.  One way or another, if you value the instructions, you better save them.  That's the case for all cyber stuff you want to be able to reference in the future.  It exists only insomuch as the files exist and are properly addressed and linked.  Otherwise, they are vapor.

I have asked Mickey what he intends to do.

Mickey has been a bit preoccupied the last few months.  He has tried to save the pages over to the new location but is not able to.  As I go through the things he did for us, I am deeply saddened by this.

Now my computer expertise is only a bit better than ave***e and I can't figure out an efficient way to save these pages.  The best I can do is to create a webpage with the images and descriptions, one at a time.  It is extremely slow-going and there is no way I can do them all.  I would be very grateful to anyone who can find a better way.  Go to Mickey's website and see what you think oh geniuses of the bits and bytes.  The link is one the first page of this thread.

This is not a great solution either but i have found in the past it is hard for this ol' brain to look at something on someone's instructional web site and then try to work from *MEMORY* (rotflmbo) in my work area. With this in mind I have printed out many pages (including quite a few of Mickey's) and put them in a big three ring binder (actually a couple or so of them). That way i can open the book on my bench and refresh my poor ol' brain on how to straighten a Cane, make a Ferret Floppy Rest, etc, etc. Of course I will grant it is easier to accomplish this as it occurs, than it would be to do a whole site at one time. Another thing - I don't know how come but I never (happened, perhaps)to run into thumbnails that hindered me - except on one knife site, and then the thumbnails were enough to jog my memory. FWIW, guys & gals.

I ALSO MISS MICKEY, and I don't mind  shouting  it. I also agree the loss of his site would be a grievious loss indeed. Those big sites like that are expensive to maintain. I am lucky in that mine (it's not instructional like Mickey's, Jawge's, Torges, etc, etc. but is informative/entertaining on some level) is free to me and the server imposes no size limit (for life) - only stipulation, other than keeping it clean, is no advertisements (non-commercial). Even it could go away someday, I suppose, if something happened to the owner, Robert Hogue, Lord forbid that happens before it is my time to quit. I could certainly never afford that much space.

I hope it can be saved too.  Mickey's site is a great source of information.

Agreed, losing Mick's web pages is a grievous loss. Losing the man would be an even greater loss. Unthinkable from my perspective. The Mickster's wisdom, knowledge, wit and unbridled devotion to Diane first and primitive sticks second is an unmeasurable treasure to our community. I am proud to call him acquaintance let alone friend. I hope all is well with he and his family.

I don't think he'd mind me sharing but he's not here to yell at me so who cares if he does  :)

Dianne had both knees replaced and has had some rework done on them afterwards.  He also rear-ended a truck in his car and nearly totalled it.

I'm sure some thoughts and prayers their way wouldn't hurt things.

Peace.

I e-mailed Mickey just after Christmas and he told me about Diane's surgery but I haven't been in contact since.  It would be a real shame to loose the info on Mickey's website.
Like Bernie, I have a 3 ring binder bulging with archery related info. I'd bet there is a page or 2 of Mickey's in there. If everyone that read Mickey's site printed a page or two, we might have almost the entire site in hard copy.

I've so missed Mick's banter that this thread caught my eye, though I don't make primitive stuff like you guys.

I have to wonder if some computer savvy enterprising soul were to do the hard and tedious work, and then make up CD's of the work, if it might not be a salable item the way you'all speak of the value of these works?

Not a bad idea Doc has there - for the right techno-dude, armed with Mick's approval.

Pat - you and I just keep finding things we are more alike about. You ain't my long lost twin are you? I guess not 'cause my beard is like wire but there never was enough  hairs in it to raise even sparse facial hair - unlike your prolific genes in that area - LOL)

OK, they're gone.  I was going to try to pdf them and save them so that they could be reposted where ever Mickey wanted them, but apparently the site has closed.

Did anyone get them off, or did Mickey find the time to do something with them???

Anybody know?
