I was looking for info if John Schulz liked to use Bubinga or Shedua in his risers for his bows. Either the Naturals or glass bows. If you have a Shulz as well post some picturess and weight, length, woods ect. Thanks Flint

Myrtle was his standard riser wood.

Mostly myrtle ones I've seen, but I do own a Schultz "Natural" that is bamboo backed yew with the handle/riser made up of additional layers of yew.

Myrtle riser on mine. Sorry, no pictures to show. I'm not very good with a computer.

Mine is myrtle, too, Flint. Let me know if you want to fondle it again. I also have a Schulz made Hill Tembo, it is bubinga.

Thia is an older bow with yew limbs and a myrtle handle. I believe he used myrtle on lighter bows and not the heavy ones. This one is 55lbs. and about 30 years old.

Missouri Bowman, that's a great pic. Thanks for posting it.
I am going to be ordering a new Howard Hill longbow sometime this winter. I'd already decided on getting the Redman because I like yew bows. Hadn't decided on what wood I wanted for the riser. However, I did want a wood that, like yew, is from the Pacific Northwest. Myrtle certainly fits that bill and looks good too. Even so, I had no idea that John Schultz prefered myrtle for his risers on the bows he built.

Mine is 66", 61 lb @ 27". I need to shoot it more. I don't know if myrtle was a "preferred" wood or just available and worked well, but it is common in the Schulz and Hill bows from that time. My old cedar limbed Dave Johnson is myrtle and I have a Meigs from back then that has shedua.
