Is there anything out there on hunting Columbia Blacktail deer specifically?  I am finding them much different than Whitetail and am losing the chessmatch.

Yes, there are several books on blacktail hunting. Boyd Iverson's "Blacktail Trophy Tactics II" is arguably the best book ever written on the subject. Although primarily written with gun hunters in mind, Iverson's book is applicable to bow hunters as well. Another good book is "Hunting Black-Tailed Deer: An Oregon Perspective" by Louis Terkla (don't be put off by the name; what Terkla writes about is also applicable to Washington and other blacktail states). "Bowhunting Trophy Blacktails" by Cameron Hanes is also useful but I think the first two books are actually much better (especially Iverson's book). There is also a fourth book by John Higley called "Hunting Blacktail Deer". It's an interesting book but isn't anywhere near as useful as the previous three I've metioned.

Having said all this, if you only could get one book on blacktail hunting, I would strongly suggest that it be the one by Boyd Iverson.

Hope this helps.

Yes, technically there are a couple of blacktail books by Iverson. But "Blacktail Trophy Tactics II" is actually a revision of the first book, "Blacktail Trophy Tactics". Essentially the the second book is the same as the first except that it contains expanded imformation. If one reads "Blacktail Trophy Tactics II" they will receive all the same information that was in the first book.

I've learned much from Iverson's books and follow his techniques and advice. He gun hunts, yes, but his philosophy is to get as close as possible to make the cleanest quickest kill he can. I've read both of his books and highly recommend them.  http://www.blacktailtrophytactics.com/index.htm

Blacktails are very much different to hunt than whitetails. I found this in reverse when I hunted Texas with the gang last year. You are correct that it is a chess match with these deer. Get Inversons books.
