tuning one set of arrows for two bows-any tips

I have a question about tuning.
  I have a 59# longbow and want to tune some carbon express 250's for it.  I am thinking of about 200 grains up front.  I want to get a 55-59# recurve and shoot the same arrows.  
 
  I know that most people will say you will have to shoot them to find out, but have any of you guys  tried something like this and do you think it will work okay?
   I normally shoot 2018's out of a longbow of this weight and have shot them out of a recurve of this weight switching one from the other without a problem, but haven't had any experience with carbons.  Any thoughts?

That's going to be a tough math problem.  We did it this year in that I bought shafts and we built bows to shoot them.  Actually they tuned up very nice.  But to setup a Longbow and expect a simular weight curve to shoot the same is iffy.

I would think you would need to drop more weight on the curve to get good arrow flight.

I actually just did this. I shoot a Morrison Shawnee recurve 54@27 with a 630 grain(310 up front)Arrow Dynamic arrow @ 29 1/2"long. The broadhead is a 125 gr. snuffer, 125 steel insert, and 60 gr. brass insert(I cut the 100's down). I also shoot the same arrow out of my Whisperstik longbow 53@27. The only difference I had to make was the Whisperstik liked 2-blade Eclipse better then the Snuffer. They just flew a touch better. Other then that it worked out good for me. Lucky me I should say.
Keep in mind the longbow is cut past center. That makes a big difference.

There are some variables you have not told us. Is the LB center shot, cut past or not quite too? Is the LB D-shape or R/D?
To get the recurve to shoot the same shafts you will need to build up the sideplate. Better to have the arrows tuned for each bow.

Allan I was able to tune one set of arrows for two bows and they just happen to be the same arrows you are talking about.  I was only able to do this through my buddies Riverstyk and Aggie1993.  I am pretty sure we all three shoot the same arrows out of all our bows.  

I have a Jack Kempf little grizzly 58inch 60# longbow and a Dryad Orion 58inch 54# curve and I am able to fling the same arrows out of each.  

Carbon Express heritage 250  cut to 30 inches and 100 grain brass insert with 125 magnus stingers and they fly true.  Another set up I am playing with is cut to 30 inches and use the standard insert with the Abowyer 215gr whitetail head with the alluminum adaptor (35gr) for a total tip weight of 250.  These fly great as well only problem I have encountered so far is the total destruction of my glenndale target.

I shoot the same 545gr carbon arrows (GT's)out of my 62 and 61# longbow and recurve respectively. I frankly don't trust my own perceptions on the matter of tuning a bow so I get someone very knowledgeable to stand behind me, watch the flight, release, etc. As far as "we" can tell the GT's fly just fine out of either bow. I drop 5gr when I switch from field points to Wensel's but they seem to just zip in straight regardless. All the weight is up front. The longbow is not cut to center but the recurve is. I thought for sure that I would have to change the set-up so I am pleasantly surprised. In fact, I am reluctant to try other weights, arrows etc. because I love the interghangeability of the current set up. I bring both bows on trips and one set of arrows and only have to worry about keeping the strings straight!

Well if you tune them for a longbow and want to shoot them from your recurve you may just half to lighten the point weight some.If your recurve is cut past center,they usally require a slightly stiffer shaft then a longbow.I have a set of carbons that I shoot out of four different longbows of different weights by changing point weight slightly.

i would tune them to the longbow. then because the recurve is probably cut to or past centre it will require a stiffer arrow thus build out the side plate on the recurve.

and because you say the recurve is a lower # you might not hane to build it out much

Perhaps.  As Shaun said, I shoot the CE Heritage 250 too and have tuned them to fly out of several bows.  I have 100g brass inserts and have changed the tip weight, strike plate width, and size of puffs to get them tuned just right to both RC and LB but the LB were RD and about 5lbs heavier.  Just depends on several variables.

I do this all the time, because I like to shoot the same arrows out of multiple bows. The first thing you have to do is tune the arrows to the weaker of the two bows. Then tune the stronger bow to the arrows themselves. Sometimes, it's as simple as adding heavier silencers to the stronger bow's string. Other times, it'll require tweaking the centershot or brace height.

I shoot the same 2216 arrows from my 3 Widows as follows....

45#    145 gr head
50#    125 gr head
59#    100 gr head

Should be no problem at all.Tune the arrows to fly right from the longbow first.Recurves are usually more centershot.That will give you more room to tune the bow to the arrow by adjusting centershot untill things work right.

Tune the bow requiring a heavier shaft with lighter points and then tune the point weight heavier for the other bow.
