Arrow Crown Dipping Paint Options?

Besdies Bohning and not using the spray can what are some of you guys using to crown dip your wooden arrows that has alot of color options to match feathers? I have tried the spray can and just do not care for it. I like the different stains but want to start using a dip paint. Let's talk about about how much to thin it and do you dip more than 1 coat for coverage? I know to put white under color coats as well. Thanks for replies. Flint

analine dyes do a great job and come in a bunch of colors. it's really thin like water. all you do is put a little on a paper towel and rub it on.

I have used an Acrylic Latex Enamel. Thin with water. Use Duco. Works very well. Hap

I've only used Bohning and have been very pleased. I did try some spray paint and was not happy with it.
I crown dip 8", let dry a day and dip again for perfect coverage. I thin with Bohning thinner until the paint quits running off and starts to drip at about 15 seconds...

Almost any kind of paint, enamel, laquer, or acrylic exterior house paint or automotive paint. Joseph

Biggest selection of colors in a good arrow paint is automotive laquer from NAPA.
Thin like JDS3 suggests... any laquer thinner will work.
You should just be able to see the grain of the shaft through the first coat...Multiple very thin coats gives an awesome finish. Steel wool between coats.
Two or three coats is about right.

Charlie,
Great tip to use the auto laquer...
Will my fletch tite and or water based acrylic cresting paint "work" with the automotive laquer??? Are they compatible chemically?

The cresting paint will be fine but you may need to Duco cement instead of fletchtite which wouldn't be a bad thing because it is only .99 cents a tube at Wal Mart.

John... I've had good luck with FletchTite over auto laquer and the acrylic cresting shouldn't be a problem... like Joseph said!
Also like Joseph said, Duco is so cheap, easy to find and works great on auto laquer.
