Help finding a Hog hunt
« on: December 22, 2008, 04:34:00 PM »
Being from Idaho, I'm a long way from anything resembling a wild pig.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a pig hunting area close enough to Idaho so it wont break the bank with travel expenses?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

just beware. Many if not most hog hunt operations, especially further north, are canned hunts.

Pigs are great to hunt. Fun, sign is easy to find, exciting, and a real challenge. But if canned they are probably one of the easiest animals there is to hunt.

The main thing with them is they are highly nomadic, and can eat ANYTHING. So you never know where they are, or what they are eating. But they do make an awful lot of sign. So you keep on it till it's fresh and you'll find pigs. Old school tracking, but it's easier said then done.

But if you take away its nomadic life by fencing it, and limit it's food options, you'll have a very easy hunt.

I always feel bad for the pigs I see hunted on Tv. It's always a bunch of jittery pigs all cowering behind one another trying not to get shot and get some corn. They know a hunter is there and skirt the edge nervously. If they were REAL wild pigs with more food sources they'd be GONE.

Dan if you make it out we can hunt Javilena here in AZ, It's in Jan, and by draw. You can put in for leftover tags though. For hog I would look at North California
