Kids Bow Tiller-a-long (with pics)

Hey IuI made a bow that looked like the before pic once. I tried to heat the limb to align a tip while it was strung        

Tony doesn't take a lot of thickness to make a bunch of difference in how a limb reacts so if your facets were off a bit on that one limb it could come out either stiff or weak depending on how you laid out the facets. Fortunately minor scraping will bring it back around. It's not like you have to take off 1/8" of wood to get it to bend, we're talking scrapes with your cabinet scraper. You'll get it.

Listen to Mike..no one has as much expereince with this type of bow as ol Wingnutty.

My wife says that the entire time I'm working on a bow I'm "in a constant state of near panic."  I got a good chuckle out of that but the fact is that it is mostly true.  I didn't realize it until she said it but I was so afraid of taking off too much wood that I was letting myself get really tense as I worked.  I guess I need to get a couple under my belt and a little confidence built up so I can settle in and be confident in the fact that if I make a mistake I will be capable of recovering from it or comfortable with tossing it aside and moving on to the next one.

Yep Tony the stiff limb needs a TLC from about a 1/3 out to the node.

I love it when a plan comes together!  I think I've finally got the stiff limb into shape.

Ok...  I've worked put to 9" of draw at a 4.5" brace.  I figure the finish brace will be 5" but I wanted some more skilled eyes than mine to look at it at this stage and confirm what I'm seeing.

 

It appears to me that the outer 1/3 of each limb is stiff -- the walkie talkie confirms that.  I am right now at 10# @ 9"  Finish goal is 20# @ 20".  I plan to take 5 light scrapes from the outer 1/3 of each limb, exercise and move to 11".  Then I will repeat the walkie talkie and see where we go from there.

The bow is looking much better.  Looks a itty bit hingy outside of the node on both limbs (leave alone for awhile).  Your correct on the mid to outside 1/3 on the limbs being the next attack area.

Again, go slow these little suckers will come around fast.  Looks like your almost done to me.
