Got to shoot today.
« on: January 11, 2009, 10:10:00 PM »
Thanks to Curtis and his friends I had the opportunity to shoot a few longbows today. He contacted me over my post asking if there was anyone in my area who could let me try out a longbow since I'd never fired one before and I was worried about the different riser on it. First time I'd pulled a bow in about 28 years except for about three shots with a compound at an archery store. I don't consider those as shooting a bow though, more like firing a gun-pull the trigger on the mechanical release while trying to decipher where to point the thing because of being distracted by the pin sight. Proud to report I found I'm still able to hit the target. In fact shooting Curtis' Griffen from about 10-12 yds (lemmee brag a little) my FIRST shot was dead center of the bulls-eye!  :saywhat:
Got witnesses!
While I was fairly consistent after that I know I need more practice to get back to where I used to be. But I know that, once I get it, I'll be comfortable with my longbow's grip.
So thank you to Curtis, Travis, Jeff, Marty, Lee, and Vic (hope I remembered your names right)for a great afternoon. Once again you've all shown what a great group of people there are in Tradgang.   :clapper:

Uhh, lemme tell ya something... For not having shot a bow in 28 years, Dan is a natural.  As usual, I managed to hit most every spot on the target (whether I was aiming there or not) but Dan would pick up someone's bow to try, and within a few shots he was laying them right in the middle.

We enjoyed your company today, and look forward to seeing your new bow when you get it.  Good shootin Dan!

Good to meet and shoot with ya Dan.  Good shooting after a 28 year hiatus.  You saw what happened to me after just a couple months off.......hmmmm maybe if I took 28 years off I could do that good too!

(looks under bed for bow and arrow storage).
